New BI User, call me Overwhelmed

I was a career software engineer and it sounds like you spun up on BI easier than I did. But that's not the point of this post. For me the issue isn't not being able to learn BI, but the amount of time it takes. I ran into another example while gathering info for post #5 above, a BI bug I...

    CodeProject.AI Version 2.5

My system becomes unresponsive every 4 to 5 days, and the only way I can get it back is to do a rude shutdown (i.e. cut the power) and reboot. Could be BI. CPAI, windows, or maybe even a hardware issue. I don't have any time to dig deeper, so I just live with it. No point in me complaining if...

New BI User, call me Overwhelmed

While true in a lot of cases, there are some places where nerdiness is required. One example is with the storage setup. If my memory is correct (ok to question this!) the default install setup is not what one wants for the common configuration of one disk for the BI system, and another for...

Hikvision IP Camera POE Long Distance Connection Issue

A POE switch plugged into mains where cameras will be located and this CAT6 will connect both NVR and POE switch. (This info is for a Dahua NVR. I'm assuming the Hikvision NVR would be the same but you'd need to verify.) The NVR camera ports are meant for a single camera only, and you would...

Hikvision IP Camera POE Long Distance Connection Issue

Just some thoughts. I have a couple of cameras running reliably near the 100m limit, with a couple of differences from your installation: (1) The wiring is 23 awg solid copper cat6. Your description left open that yours could be CCA. (2) I'm using a business class POE switch, which could work...

    The official "WTF" thread

A head-scratcher. If I don't pay nothing by the due date, my insurance won't renew. It says to disregard if payment has been already been made, which it has, but if I disregard that I have to pay nothing that means that I have to pay something.

    MotionDetection - Blue Iris - ONVIF - Dahua/Empire Cameras - wits end

But doesn't BI turn motion detection in the camera back on? Mine does.

    Rain causes steaking on video

I've gone to using external IR on all my cameras because of this. It's even worse with snow. Why it's different with the Amcrest cameras is a head-scratcher for me. I've made a few sunshades out of cans. Some soup cans are the exact correct size for some of the Dahua turrets.

    Anyone tried these 2mm thermals?

If the goal is to detect animals I'd disagree. With Dahua cameras you can't use IVS for detecting animals, and motion detection gives so many false alerts that the ones you want are lost in the noise. CPAI filters out some of the false alerts, but lets a lot of them through, often thinking...

At first glance this looks similar or identical to Andy's TPC124X-AI-S2, a little under $500.

    Home insurance rate increases

California home insurer raises rates 15% to avoid leaving the state A big deal with a 15% increase in California? My rate in Oregon is up 40% from 2023. $870 4 years ago is now $2,251.

    Pandemic threat? Anyone else concerned?

Same thing happened with some of the engineers back when I was working my high tech job. They often got promoted for fixing the emergency they caused in the first place.

    Beginner question - POE 12V, 24V, 48V

You need to consider how much power the siren needs. With the models of cameras I pull 12 volts from, the practical limit is to pull about 4 watts, and less if you use the camera's IR lights. I turn the camera IR off, then power a 4-watt external illuminator from the camera's 12 volt supply...

Blue Iris...... As easy as Chinese Algebra.

If you're not a bot (nothing personal at all, it's just that bots often have a post count of 1), I can relate to your pain. I got mine going with CPAI a few months back, and it took a lot of fiddling. The two things that got me through were (1) Exactly following the CPAI installation...

    Money & Economics

The personal exemptions got eliminated when the standard deduction went up. For me it was still a net tax reduction. Maybe the reason that bidet wants the Trump changes to expire is the limit on SALT (state and local taxes) deductions, which caused a tax increase for some in high cost of...

7 ways to make Windows 11 less annoying

Seven of many reasons why I use windows 7 and linux. https://www.zdnet.com/article/seven-ways-to-make-windows-11-less-annoying/ "Increasingly, Microsoft is treating Windows as a giant billboard where it can promote and cross-sell other products." Pandemic threat? Anyone else concerned?

This is very close to my situation, although there are 2 pea-sized nodules in addition to what they're calling a "multitude" of others "sprinkled" across the brain. I'm feeling lucky having the cancer doctors that our non-establishment GP hooked me up with. The radiologist told me upfront that...

    Pandemic threat? Anyone else concerned?

The top 2 things on my suspect list are: 1. Until 15 years ago I spent 30 years in a house with a high radon level. 2. Oregon wildfire smoke. For anybody who understands the medical jargon, the specific diagnosis is: Stage IV right upper lobe bronchogenic adenocarcinoma with nodal and brain...

    Pandemic threat? Anyone else concerned?

So sorry about this. Just to state that not everything can be blamed on the jab, I've been recently diagnosed with lung cancer that has spread to the brain. No covid jabs, and no smoking history either. Nevertheless, I fully agree about the pharma-phucks crimes.

Cat6, Fiber optics, or wireless bridge to shed

I recently bought some of those elbows. My guess is that they're a low volume part, with more per-piece overhead and less competition. A few years ago my Home Depot had them in stock. Now, they don't.

    Dahua Firmware on NVR5216-4KS2

You should determine if you have a v1 or v2 5216-4ks2. I vaguely remember that some of the later firmware was only for v2. If you have the v4 user interface, it will display the hardware version of the NVR, v1 or v2. Also, if you have the v4 user interface, there's a good chance you'd gain...

    Starlights with strange IP address

The only thing I can think of offhand is that with the newer cameras you don't need to open them up to get to the reset button. For a less helpful comment, I've been following this thread with some disbelief of what's happened to you. Over about 6 years I've brought up about 30 cameras without...
