Hi everyone!
This is my first post and I want to say "hi" to everybody.

I decided that I want to secure my house a bit more and want to install 2 or 3 cameras on the outside of my house, where electricity is also available.
I only have 4 requirements but so far... I didnt find any camera that will fulfill them all.

- Outdoor (once somebody makes it in my house its too late anyways I think)
- WiFi (I dont want to and cannot run wires)
- 2 Way Talk (I would like to be able to talk and listen to whomever passes the cam)
- Compatible with my Synology NAS (Why not utilize it since I have it. Also, I dont want a monthly contract with anybody for cloud storage)
- 1080p or up (1080p would be sufficient, more cant hurt)

Does anybody have an idea?

Thanks so much,
Sammy

You can easily hire someone to run cable. Dont say you cannot.
Do you even know what cameras synology supports two way audio for, if any?

Well, of course there is always a way, but my house makes it complicated and costly. So, lets stay at "I cant". :)
Two way audio through Synology? Thats a very good point, but from the compatibility list from Synology, it looks like in general that is possible.
But I am really not sure...

I am using a Synology NAS with surveillance station and various Hikvision cameras including a DS-2CD2542FWD-IS. Two way audio does appear to be supported although I have never actually tried it. Ideally I would avoid using wi-fi, if you're unable to run a Cat5 cable, how about using a couple of power line adapters?

IMO, you'll need to make sure your WiFi network gets a strong signal to all of your outdoor cameras.

If one (or more) of your cameras end up struggling with a less-than-good WiFi signal, your WiFi access point will slow down the entire WiFi network to try and accommodate the struggling cameras. This has the potential to kill your WiFi network performance and based on forum posts from members here, some cameras will disconnect from the WiFi network when that starts to happen, often requiring a power cycle to get them back online.

Hey, very good point, thank you.
I am seriously considering going through the struggle and putting out Cat6 cables out there. :-(

My standard welcome to the forum message.

Please read the IP Cam Talk Cliff Notes and other items in the IP Cam Talk Wiki. The wiki is in the blue bar at the top of the page.

Read How to Secure Your Network (Don't Get Hacked!) in the wiki also.

Quick start
1) If you do not have a wired monitored alarm system, get that first
2) Use Dahua starlight cameras or Hikvision darkfighter cameras or ICPT Night eye cameras (Store | IP Cam Talk) if you need good low light cameras.
3) use a VPN to access home network (openVPN)
4) Do not use wifi cameras.
5) Do not use cloud storage
6) Do Not use uPNP, P2P, QR, do not open ports,
7) More megapixel is not necessarily better.
8) Avoid chinese hacked cameras (most ebay, amazon, aliexpress cameras(not all, but most))
9) Do not use reolink, ring, nest cameras (they are junk), no cloud cameras
10) If possible use a turret camera , bullet collect spiders, dome collect dirt and reflect light (IR)
11) Use only solid copper, AWG 23 or 24 ethernet wire. , no CCA (Copper Clad Aluminum)
12) use a test mount to verify the camera mount location. My test rig: rev.2
13) (Looney2ns)If you want to be able to ID faces, don't mount cams higher than 8ft. You want to know who did it, not just what happened.
14) Use a router that has openVPN built in (Most ASUS, Some NetGear....)
15) camera placement use the calculator... IPVM Camera Calculator V3

I knew it... its going to be a project and not easy. :)
But hey, I am geek also and dont normally lean towards the "I go to bestbuy and buy a set that is stupid easy with no control over it".

Ok, thanks so much @SouthernYankee, that list is good and of course also I am studying the Wiki page.

One thing interests me, why would you in general say:
9) Do not use reolink, ring, nest cameras (they are junk), no cloud cameras
Because like I mentioned above, its a closed standard system with no control basically, easy to use for the every day housewife, but not secure at all, neither customizable?
From what I read the camera quality of those systems is not the worst, is it?

Btw, I am at the point where I walk on my roof to see how/where I can put the wires. ;-)

Have a good one,
Sammy

Look at the night video from a reolink that has motion in it. It is totally unusable in identifying people. In my opinion it is very over priced for what you get, There are a number of posts with video from reolink at night.

My home system uses Blue Iris and OpenVPN. MY wife has no problems at all using the system, She uses t most time when she is out to check that the dogs and packages at the front door.

Reolink / Cantonk / Longse became well known here four years ago for low quality hardware, firmware, and video quality. They would spam the forums with fake posts supporting their products. That's a Bozo No-No, and when called out for it, they continued to try. Many of us tried one or two of the cameras, and experienced frequent hardware and firmware failures. They asked us to purchase more cameras instead of replacing their failed products.

Ok everybody, I know now what I want and I am preparing my house with wires... yes, I will put down PoE Ethernet Cable. :)

What I want to do/what I need now are 3 cameras, all outdoor.

Camera 1: For the backyard, will be hidden in a bush or birdhouse.
- Is around 30 feet away from the viewed area
- Needs to work well at day and night
- Audio build in good, but not mandatory

Camera 2: Views driveway in front of the garage
- is right there 8 ft high looking down
- Needs to work day and night
- Audio build in good, but not mandatory

Camera 3: Looks at my front door from 8 ft above (attached on the side of the garage)
- Just a couple of feet away from the viewed area (front door)
- Audio build in is a must
- Needs to work well at day and night

What do you recommend?

@SouthernYankee already gave you links to very viable cam options in his post.
