    Running Ethernet Cables

Hi, While I have wired ethernet in my house I'm going to have to run some additional cables for some of my cameras. I don't net know whether I'll be able to hide those cables in the walls... Assuming that I am not able to hide the cables I'll need to run some externally and in some areas...

    Dahua Microphone Sensitivity

I was looking for a bit of "pre-testing" information to placate my wife's concerns about being overheard at any point in the house. I'm well aware that the only way to get a definitive answer is through testing...

    About Mounting of Cameras

Hi, I have some questions regarding mounting brackets that I hope someone can clarify for me if you don't mind... - I will be mounting a camera in the corner of the ceiling of my carport. Is an in-ceiling or junction box the right mount to use here? - Is the argument in favour of junction boxes...

    Dahua Microphone Sensitivity

Hi, One of the cameras I'm looking at is the EBW81230 and I see it has a built-in microphone. Could someone explain to me how sensitive this microphone is please? I'm thinking to place this camera on the ceiling of my home theatre room and am wondering about the range at which it will be able to...

    Motion Sensitive Lighting

Hi, Are there "goto" motion sensitive lights I can use to help my cameras out? I'm thinking primarily outdoor, but also indoor. Relatively discreet/nice would be idea, due to WAF... Note that one of my outdoor use cases is for a downlighter in my carport. Regards, Dave

    On The Subject of Alarms

So taking the implications of this further does this mean that non-optical improvements and features included as they iterate the platform ('5' series vs '4' series for example) don't really matter that much cos I can lean on Blue Iris for all of that? This has really opened my eyes. Thank you :)

Oh right! I was going from this: https://www.dahuawiki.com/IVS:IVS

    On The Subject of Alarms

I've just had a look at IVS. Seems that it doesn't work with H.264/265 compression? Compression is pretty essential to managing data footprint so that's not good. Is Blue Iris able to do all of what IVS offers too? That is, should I be bothered about camera "smarts" at all?

    On The Subject of Alarms

This is interesting @aristobrat. Are there no advantages to the functionality that the cameras offer over blue iris? I did wonder about what BI might be capable of but assumed it would be a poor version of what the better cameras are capable of themselves.

    On The Subject of Alarms

Hi, I'm weighing the set of cameras I'll buy to cover my house. I want at least some of those cameras to notify and/or email me when there is a motion trigger. And maybe trigger my homeassistant home automation system to "do stuff". Looking at the specs, some cameras have alarm outputs while...

    POE vs Non-POE NVR

I suspect the ability of the NVR itself to process and write the data would be the primary bottleneck. But thanks for the clarification. Very helpful...

    Regarding Fisheye Cameras

Hi, I've noted that some fisheye cameras list in their specs the ability to 'dewarp' the 360 degree image. Having seen this in shown in a youtube video it is quite impressive. However, other cameras don't list that feature... So, is dewarping a feature of the camera or the NVR software? The...

    POE vs Non-POE NVR

Ok thx. Do these NVRs allow for the camera feeds to enter the switch via the LAN port?

    POE vs Non-POE NVR

Okay, I'll try to be clearer. As you say, POE is for powering the cameras. A POE capable NVR costs more money, so if I already have a POE capable switch to power the cameras it makes sense to get a non-POE NVR. This would connect to a standard port on the same switch to aggregate the inputs from...
