Dense persons guide to VPN on a Netgear Router

Thanks, I just set this up, it works perfectly. Hirize's guide was very helpful, but Netgear's VPN implementation is pretty weak, there is no way to set a password for VPN, and it means anyone who can grab the VPN files from your computer can access your home network from anywhere, and you...

Dense persons guide to VPN on a Netgear Router

Thank you I suppose it's Yes to my 1st question, but if we don't want to use our slow upload speeds at home (especially connecting it to from our cellphone remotely) can we select only certain apps to use VPN? For example can we designate TinyCam Pro to go through VPN while everything else can...

Dense persons guide to VPN on a Netgear Router

Could be considered a dumb question, but once we set this up in our laptop/mobile phone, does this mean ALL data will go through VPN? Can we decide which apps will use VPN and everything else should go through regular network?

Does anyone here use LaView wifi bullet cameras (with or without NVR)?

I am not happy with junk, hence I am here discussing instead of buying another zmodo. Noted POE can work as regular switch, then I can utilize my existing wiring to garage and then run cables to each camera. I'll check dahua starlight. I don't see them on Amazon, is ebay best place to get them...

Does anyone here use LaView wifi bullet cameras (with or without NVR)?

I want a simple setup without spending $1000 on NVR, Cameras, wiring, POE switches etc. I don't need too much motion detection since the area being monitored is a shared area, so as long as it records when there is a motion, i don't mind too many motion alert triggered recording. Honestly my...

Does anyone here use LaView wifi bullet cameras (with or without NVR)?

Thanks, but what is wrong with wifi ones? I plan to have 1 cable from my home to my garage, and set a wireless access point, so reception will not be an issue if that's the reason why wifi is bad. In reference to pixel based detection, can you recommend a better camera? It sounds like you know...

Does anyone here use LaView wifi bullet cameras (with or without NVR)?

After my Zmodo suddently died (didn't do much troubleshooting yet, it looks like it's bricked, i'll discuss that in different thread) I decided to look into less complicated cameras. Does anyone here use this: LaView IP Cameras I have a few questions on this - Can we view the recording...

Is there a preferred PC for running BluIris with 8 cameras?

Right, I said "if you plan to use" referring to others who may have plans to use it for other than BI. Personally $20 is negligible to get HDMI port alone. Some people use VGA with a small monitor, since I won't be looking at it all the time, I prefer to hook it up to my AVR using HDMI so I can...

Is there a preferred PC for running BluIris with 8 cameras?

bp2008, it's not just budget but it's hard to find 4th or 5th gen i5, etc with reasonable price bump, for example the link I shared, $80-$90 for i5 2nd gen, suddenly price jumps to $150+ for 4th or 5th gen or i7. Dasstrum, thanks, but if you plan to use the computer for occasional PC usage like...

Is there a preferred PC for running BluIris with 8 cameras?

Thanks but it says H.265 acceleration hardware which may be usable by Blue Iris in the future. So it sounds like currently there is no benefit of h.265 acceleration, and it does say You can also get good performance out of older models as far back as the Sandy Bridge architecture (2xxx...

Is there a preferred PC for running BluIris with 8 cameras?

Thanks, I used that too on my thinkpad before but my TV would lock in "PC" mode even after I change inputs, must be something with the AV Receiver getting confused and being stuck at PC. When the TV is stuck in PC mode, a lot of the picture settings are disabled, and the picture turns into a...

Is there a preferred PC for running BluIris with 8 cameras?

My main complaint with some of these, especially HP and Lenovo branded ones, is that they don't come with HDMI ports, I guess I can always add $20 graphics card and call it a day. I see there are others listed for $100-$150 range. Is 2nd gen i5 too old? HP 8200 Elite USDT Intel Core i5-2500S...

Is there a preferred PC for running BluIris with 8 cameras?

That's a good approach to get older workstations and swap processors as long as they have compatible chipsets. I had problems trying to upgrade my processors before especially on brand name computers. I guess Optiplex is a good idea, we have them in the office, they seem to be reliable generally.
