Subdivision Monitoring - Smallest Viable System Recommendations

Oh though now that I look at it I think I'd have to add a switch as well to make this work vs just having PoE built into the 4100s. Back to this one I think: EmpireTech NV41AI-8P-4K 8 Channels Smart 1U 1HDD 8PoE 1HDD Network Vid

I saw that refurb and wondered the same. Sounds like it would. Assume there's little downside to a refurb from a trusted vendor?

Subdivision Monitoring - Smallest Viable System Recommendations

So I found this wiki which actually has some live instances of NVRs running: DahuaWiki Looking at the 4100, it seems totally usable via the web. Is that not an accurate representation? (in other news it is very weird to be staring into a random warehouse in what I take it is China) I realize...

@bigredfish One last question. Are you having the cameras tag events in your setup?

    Super useful, thank you @bigredfish

Subdivision Monitoring - Smallest Viable System Recommendations

We have a utility building near enough for CAT5 runs that will house everything, so no worries on where the NVR will live. If lite series would work given our low requirements then all the better.

I'm particularly interested in knowing whether that overview will work well for my purpose or whether something else would be better. I hear spiders love IR sensors, we are in the woods, perhaps that's an argument for a warm light version such as this? EmpireTech IPC-Color4K-X 8MP 1/1.2” CMOS...

Subdivision Monitoring - Smallest Viable System Recommendations

Thank you, yes, read through that thread which is how I arrived at that camera. Have mostly been struggling on the minimum viable NVR side of things. (no need for plate recognition, only tagging when cars pass very infrequently)

Realize this is poorly phrased. I realize you have two cameras, but I'm asking if you have only one Z12E with different settings for day and night. (and another camera for overview (and triggering?))

Subdivision Monitoring - Smallest Viable System Recommendations

Thanks @CaptainCrunch that's super useful. Our use cases sound similar in some ways though as I said we have very very little traffic and no need for actual license plate recognition, only ability to go review with good enough footage to use our own eyes to recognize plates if it comes to it...

Subdivision Monitoring - Smallest Viable System Recommendations

Good point, though there's only one exit and entrance so in theory we should catch them going in or out regardless of plates. (front is required in Washington but ya, lots of people forego that) I realize adding more cameras is a possibility and could mean upgrading NVR later and I'm ok with...

Subdivision Monitoring - Smallest Viable System Recommendations

So as a start could I get away with spending my budget on a Z12E zoomed into plate area, a B23IR for overview and have the latter set up with tripwires? All that to a 4 series NVR ($300 with 2 TB drive?) that is just recording 24/7 and saving the tripwire events from the cameras? I realize I...

Subdivision Monitoring - Smallest Viable System Recommendations

I don't need plate recognition. I really just want an event tagged so I can later go back and not have to look at weeks of footage to find which vehicles entered and left. This area is very very low traffic. If I just used a tripwire IVS alert on the camera, would that be tagged in the 24/7...

Subdivision Monitoring - Smallest Viable System Recommendations

Thanks @actran One thing I'm still trying to wrap my head around are the interactions of the camera smarts and NVR smarts. From what I can tell the Z12E has IVS which means it would trigger on detecting of vehicles. Is that right? Or would that not work when zoomed in sufficiently to read...
