VLANS over point to point bridge

The ports the cameras are on should be configured for untagged VLAN 40 as the cameras certainly don't support VLAN tagging. I can't imagine any circumstance which you would want an end device to be running tagged; only if it's a device that should be on multiple VLANs such as another switch, a...

Dahua IP Camera, no IVS events inside camera log.

You have to use IE with the plugin to see the IVS toggle button in the live and playback screens in the camera interface. I haven't found the IVS trigger events in the camera log either.

Using Spotter Cameras to direct a PTZ where to look in an NVR or Blue Iris and setting a spotter cam as a priority in Blue Iris

With mine in alert actions (or trigger if you aren't confirming alerts with Deepstack) in the spotter cam, I use a wait command and then a go to previous preset command.

Check the destination IP of the traffic. 192.168.0.0 to 192.168.255.255, 10.0.0.0 to 10.255.255.255, and 172.16.0.0 to 172.32.255.255 are all private IPs not routable over the open Internet.

A good, free mail server to send BI notifications from?

I use it for server status updates sent to my phone over email to carrier SMS, not for all alerts since I have the BI app on my phone for push notifications and remote access. But it works just fine with BI.

Poor IR contrast in new Tennessee license plates

Two questions: how far is the illuminator from the camera and are they at the same angle? If it's not very close to it and aimed in the same spot, you won't get the IR light bouncing off the plate back into the camera lens. You can test this by standing right next to a floodlight and looking at...

    Modem tuning help

I remember having 2400 baud modems back in the day and being jealous of everyone with 9600 baud modems when playing text-based games...then five or six years later, paying $200 for a 28.8K modem on an ISA card. I probably still have an external 56K modem buried in an old laptop bag somewhere.

    weird plate reflection

I noticed that for the first time on one of my cameras last night as well, I chalked it up to the reflection of plates being so bright that it is actually reflecting inside the lens of the camera when the plate is off center. It's fun when you can reproduce it on a PTZ.

    LPR Camera location conundrum

Your best angle is going to be in front of the garage and shooting 90 degrees to the left without getting the wall in the frame, not where you have the picture drawn straight down the driveway. Your second best angle (which is still pretty steep) will be the 2nd floor to the shot over the driveway.
