I think it was in the actual camera menu not selecting video and audio , the settings were not available from the NVR interface, the audio works perfectly now

Thanks , there was a hidden setting when I logged into the NVR as a client which was not checked record audio , bizzarely I couldnt find the setting when going directly into the NVR with the mouse ! , all sorted now thanks guys

Thanks for your comments , I've got the same NVR as yourself too I've just downgraded the camera from 5.3.6 to 5.3.3 and set my bitrate back to the max 16000 + , I can confirm that with no other settings changed the camera is not locking up or freezing as on 5.3.6 , defo a bug in the system...
