how to improve these night settings?

With mine, changing Backlight mode to SSA was very dramatic in brightening the scene. You might try resetting to defaults, then change it to SSA mode and see what that does. However, a frame-by-frame of the gloriously-bright SSA video on mine showed that it came at the cost of the detail I...

    Polarizing Filter

It's a 2MP Bosch DINION IP dynamic 7000 HD that I had left over, with a Tamron varifocal lens at 50mm (targets are about 140ft out). The polarizing filter is stuck into that white thing, I can't remember what it is exactly, and that is friction-fit over the end of the Tamron lens. Its friends...

    Polarizing Filter

I have a linear polarizing filter on one camera. It cuts the light down substantially, but it does what it is there for in my case: punch through windshield glare to ID occupants of stolens and other crime-related vehicles.

    Hikvision ColorVu + 4K (DS-2CD2087G2-L)

With a f1.0 lens aperture, it wouldn't surprise me if there's a noticable effect on the depth of field. I have a 4MP ColorVu with a f1.0 lens and ended up opening the case and adjusting it to optimize the focus for closer range. I'm thinking about getting one of these 8MP models to try out...

Infrared Illuminator Microlight IR Vario XXL

If you are looking for a spot beam, Black Oak makes infrared emitters intended for automotive use (12V DC input) and they're also very powerful. Example of their small one with spot optics, compared to a camera's built-in IR and a large highly-directional CMvision emitter. For about US$100, it...

    Perpetrator Nailed by Blue Iris

You should also get a car that can change colors. And make sure your tattoos are transparent. A wig and a dress may also be a good idea... the guy in the attached photo is a good example. Two days after this photo, he came around to pick a fight with his ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend, and...

    Review IPC-T5442TM-AS-LED (Full Color, Starlight+)

Here's a YouTube video showing this model of camera in a laundry room as I change the light settings, if that helps answer the question. It starts from the viewpoint of the Dahua, and then switches to the viewpoint of a camera in the opposite corner from the Dahua. The other camera, a Bosch...

Timelapse: first snow of the year

I had BlueIris export the clips at 50x normal speed, then stuck the resulting clips in Cyberlink PowerDirector, rendered them into a single video, and then had PowerDirector accelerate the resulting video further (5x speed I think). The BlueIris export took over four hours.

Timelapse: first snow of the year

The snow was wet and sticky, and the trees still had leaves on them, so the trees took some serious damage. I got home and shook them off (that's me in the yellow vest), but it was too late for a couple of them.

Dahua IPC-HDW5442T-ZE 4MP Varifocal Turret - Night Perfomance testing

It is a lower-income area with drug houses. Here is one of the incidents, the one where the dog got stabbed to death and a man got a stab to the kidney area around 2AM: The Prosecutor called to congratulate me for my video (Bosch 8000 Starlight with 50mm lens), which forced the collapse...

Dahua IPC-HDW5442T-ZE 4MP Varifocal Turret - Night Perfomance testing

Getting facial ID is the job of my Bosch 8000 Ultra. Knowing whose face I want to ID would be the job of the overview cameras. If they can tell me it was, say, a guy in a red tanktop, the big-gun cam may be able to correlate the face or other good stuff like tats. And my LPR system would be...

Dahua IPC-HDW5442T-ZE 4MP Varifocal Turret - Night Perfomance testing

Thanks for all the work that went into your video and the tuning tips. If you have time, can you post a daytime photo with a person at long distance? I have an upcoming project where I want to do general monitoring of a large outdoor area. The objective is to verify, for example, did someone...

    Dahua LPR settings?

From your vehicle sample, it looks like a lot of the necessary light on that one came from the car's own license-plate lights, not the camera's IR. A tightly focused high-output IR emitter right next to the camera might be a worthwhile addition if you can get 12-volt power to the location. For...

Benefit of a dome cameras instead of a turrets or bullets

The IR200 is the first of the two spot beams in my video. I estimate its spread is less than 15 degrees, whatever CMvision may say. The third beam in the video is a Black Oak 2x2 emitter pod designed mainly for automotive use (no photocell). If you're planning to get the Z4E camera, you could...

Benefit of a dome cameras instead of a turrets or bullets

If you need an off-the-shelf long-range IR illuminator, the CMvision IR200 is very powerful and directional. It isn't as highly weather-sealed as some, so mounting it under an eave and not power-washing it would be best. Some time ago I contrasted the IR200 and another long-range emitter with...

    Tease

The second one looks better to me. I see some improved detail in the dark areas, like under the trees across the street. If there's some suspicious guy sneaking around in the dark without his COVID mask on, you're more likely to catch him. And if it's doing that with 20 less Gain, that's...

Playback from cams microSD cards using SmartPSS is struggling. Normal?

Thanks! I replaced the 32-bit version with the 64-bit version. So far, it is working! 1x forward playback of the six cams, from microSD cards, appears to be stable, even over WiFi. I may have to climb ladders next weekend after all :)

Playback from cams microSD cards using SmartPSS is struggling. Normal?

I was wondering about that. The Dahua download site seems to have just one variant for WIndows, a 32-bit flavor: SmartPSS which points to DahuaWiki I went another round of experimentation and I'm no further forward. I emailed the landlord that it's looking like a no-go without an NVR or a...

License plate detection - 200 feet away - PTZ?

I gave my Dahua PTZ to a buddy for LPR duty, and set the night mode to Manual focus so it does not hunt at night. So far, it is working. Light intensity drops with the square of the distance, and fog/rain/snow amplify the drop-off, so it will be interesting to see if the IR can light up the...

Playback from cams microSD cards using SmartPSS is struggling. Normal?

Thanks for the input! As a fact-finding step, I tried a full uninstall of SmartPSS and then a reinstall, excluding the PCNVR bit. It appears to be playing properly, so maybe my install was bad. I still have to move my speed slider to 2x to get 1x forward speed, and getting them to sync up as...

    CPU running at 100%?

I have an i7 with a GTX1050 whose only job is OpenALPR, and with the GTX1050 doing the video processing, it still takes about 25% of the CPU when there's no actual cars to digest. My LPR cam is 5MP at 30fps, so it's more demanding than most. If your monitors aren't connected to the GTX1050, it...

Playback from cams microSD cards using SmartPSS is struggling. Normal?

I bet it would work great with the NVR as the data source. I'll have to think about whether I want to sink even more money into this project, or just cut my losses. Thanks everyone for looking at my issue :)

Playback from cams microSD cards using SmartPSS is struggling. Normal?

I saw that, but I don't have an NVR, I have six cams with six microSD cards. I don't think a NVR would work in my scenario because of the wild temperature extremes.

Playback from cams microSD cards using SmartPSS is struggling. Normal?

I would certainly go with a BI PC or at least an NVR if I could. With temperatures in a storage shed ranging from far below freezing to "inside a parked car in summer with the windows closed," mechanical hard drives aren't really an option, hence the reliance on microSD cards in the individual...

Playback from cams microSD cards using SmartPSS is struggling. Normal?

Playback of recorded video is the problem. SmartPSS has no problem displaying live video, but replay from the microSD cards is running about 1/20th of real-time speed, and it's not due to CPU limitations on the system (mobile Core i7, 4 cores 8 threads). And the cams themselves play back the...
