Dahua Camera - odd temporary change of IP address on reboot and traffic to 192.168.254.254

Sorry folks - to answer my own question - I read the thread about unbricking with tftp and it covers this - so its just the boot loader doing its normal thing. It just struck me as odd as I saw traffic from an unused IP at 3 am ! Which I now know is when it does it does it's weekly scheduled...

Dahua Camera - odd temporary change of IP address on reboot and traffic to 192.168.254.254

I have a Dahua IPC-HDW5231R-Z with a fixed 192.168.1.x IP address and when it reboots (either manual or scheduled) it momentarily gives itself a new ip address that is +1 from the fixed ip. Then it tries to make a UDP connection to 192.168.254.254 on port 69 and 9999 Whats it doing ?

Or could it be example/sample data (e.g. a sales demo loop) on the DVR itself as part of the firmare ?

    Got Graffiti'ed

I don't know where you are but in the UK when notified the local council often will remove it within 24 hours (or faster if obscene/offensive) if its on public property, or can remove it and bill the property owner in some cases. If that was on my street I'd report it as a racial epithet and...

    New Ring Alarm System 199

The Ring Alarm will finally be available in the UK in 2 weeks. I've been following this thread since last year so I'm glad the wait is over ! Prices seem similar to America - Monitoring is £8 a month or £80 a year which I expect I'll sign up for.

Wyze Cam - Usable with Blue Iris?

The wyze page is a bit confusing at the 1st link in the instructions is to the older firmware, and the one at the bottom of the page is the newer one. I think this is the one you want, https://wyze.com/firmware/demo_V2_beta2.zip

Wyze Cam - Usable with Blue Iris?

You can see the rtsp address including the user/pass as part of the URL in the Wyze phone app in Camera Settings->Advanced Settings->RTSP e.g. rtsp://youruser:yourpassword:192.168.1.1/live

Dahua camera time issues with ntp time server on Synology NAS

I wasn't using DST - the cameras are connected to Blue Iris and are just using the camera's native overlays. I've got it all working now using ntp on a Raspberry Pi. Whats interesting is how bad all the cameras are at NTP - both Dahua and Hik. With the Hik cameras if you use the 'test' button...

Dahua camera time issues with ntp time server on Synology NAS

I don't allow my Dahua HDW5231R-Z to connect to the Internet so I have to use a local time server. My Synology NAS runs a time server which works fine with the Hik cameras, but with the Dahua the clock will flick foward 1 hour and then back an hour, and sometimes it will just gain another hour...

    Review-Dahua DB-11 Video Door Bell

I certainly wouldn't use a doorbell camera as the only camera in an area, but where it really shines is that they are usually mounted so low down compared to other cameras that they get a good face image even if someone is wearing a hat or a hood. Even with a glitchy camera (i.e. every doorbell...

Wyze Cam - Usable with Blue Iris?

I've now upgraded the firmware to the beta V2 - 4.28.4.40 and its significantly better. No more dropped frames and stable so far !

Wyze Cam - Usable with Blue Iris?

I'm seeing quite a lot of dropped frames with the Wyze V2 using rtsp. Pretty much every 10 seconds it will skip an entire second of video. This doesn't happen with the video via the app so I'm guessing the rtsp is still very much beta buggy.

    Ran 3 Cat6 cables... what a PIA!

It can be a nightmare - when I did my house I discovered all my internal and external walls are solid - literally no gaps what-so-ever (UK 1980 build). I ended up using D-line decorative trunking to run the wires.

    Afternoon visit

The vice-grips were being used for what we call 'lock-snapping attack' in the UK. Most doors here have euro cylinder locks and pretty much all of the old ones can be very easily defeated. I've fitted 'anti-snap' locks which takes all of 20 seconds to install (all the manufacturers do these now)...

Automatically upload Blue Iris motion alerts to AWS cloud

Another option for less obvious low volume storage is a USB stick. All sorts of devices other than a computer have a USB plug on them that can make a usb stick visible a poor-man's NAS. My ASDL modem, the Smart TV, the media player etc. Depending on make/model all can be a place to shove in a...

The Raspberry PI thread - What do you do with yours?

I run Domoticz home automation software on a Pi. Got it controlling all sorts of smart and not so smart devices - z-wave, Philips Hue, Ring, LightwaveRF, and generic 433Mhz. On the IPcam side of things the Pi controls a z-wave motion sensor to trigger Blueiris.

Dahua / HIK cam painting :)

As an alternative to paint its worth trying a good quality tape. I've had Camoflage Gorilla tape on an exposed outdoor camera for over 4 years and its probably 95% still all stuck on.

TripWire Work for this Front Door Camera Location?

In my local airport they have inducements specifically to make you look at the cameras in some choke-points. Theres a circle of LEDs around the lens a bit like IR LEDs on a bullet cam but these are visible LEDs with only 1 lit at a time racing around in a circle. The movement really draws the...

Car thieves smashing up car in frustration

So this is the second attempt to steal this car in a couple of weeks. I've cut this video down but to set the scene this time there was a failed attempt to get through the front door of the house (or fish the car keys) so in their frustration they smashed up the car. I've given the full footage...

Dahua & Hikvision RJ45 weatherproof connectors the same ?

I currently have an outdoor Hikvision IP camera using the weatherproof connector that came with it. I'm looking to get a Dahua camera to replace it and was wondering whether the Hikvision weatherproof plug side will work a Dahua camera (i.e. the weather proof body) ? If not I know I can cut...

    Getting wifi/bluetooth signature for phones

This is a bit of a security and home-automation question. Has anyone homebrewed anything to grab an electronic signature (wifi/bluetooth macs) of mobile devices coming upto their homes ? Think like Licence Plate Recognition but for people. While it could be used for presence detection to turn...

Tell us about your home automation!

Like some other people here, I use Domoticz running on a Raspberry Pi. This controls, Zwave devices via an Aeon USB Stick Philips Hue One-wire temperature sensor to monitor the network closet and an RFLink device to allow all sorts of 433Mhz devices to work with Domoticz. The RFLink allows...

How to remove ring from turret cam?

What I found is you have to use very very little pressure. I was getting a reasonable grip on it and couldn't budge it an inch - then tried by literally using 2 fingers for gentle pressure and it moved easily. Guess its very easy to distort it and make it bind up.

    Z-Wave module for RaspBerry Pi

I'd also recommend the Z stick - mine works very well on the Pi with Domoticz. It also gives you the option of unplugging the stick and taking it to devices you want to link. I do find the constant blue flashing light annoying on the Z stick, but a few feet of white insulating tape covered that...

DS-2CD3332-I Trim ring really doesn't want to move

You're a star ! I went from gripping it like Arnold Schwarzenegger while trying to avoid crushing it, to just using 2 finger-tips and it moved easily. A firm grip must bind it up I guess. That could have become very frustrating :D

DS-2CD3332-I Trim ring really doesn't want to move

I've just got the turret camera DS-2CD3332-I and the trim ring you need to remove to the install really really doesn't want to move. It looks to be in place properly but is really stubborn and I'm very wary of using tools for leverage against plastic. Any suggestions ?
