I vane been successfully using Asus OpenVPN for years.

I have a Asus RT-66U router. When I try connecting via OpenVPN to the router I get an Insecure Hash error. In the Open VPN setting in the Asus router I have changed the advance setting for HMAC authentication to SHA 256. I hen save and down loaded the client.ovpn file to the cell phone client. Still get the error what else do i need to change.

Asus router version: 3.0.0.4.382_51640
android OpenVPN version: 3.4.0(9755)

The RT-66u router does not regenerate the certificate.

The Asus router RT-66u does not support the require security for the current version of OpenVPN. The router will not be upgraded.

The workaround is to change the security in the OpenVPN client (the phone).
1) Go to settings.
2) at the bottom for the setting screen go to Advanced settings.
3) under security setting select the Insecure (not recommend) setting.

The best solution is to buy a more up to date Asus router
