Some of the covers claim to block IR light while passing visible light so that the police cannot see the cover.

There are sprays that claim to create a reflective surface that cannot be seen from straight-on, so that again, the police cannot see anything wrong. But they allegedly reflect highly when illuminated from an angle so that the traffic cameras that use a flash will be blinded by the reflection that is OVER the numbers on your plate, and the whole plate appears overexposed and white. They're probably just a somewhat milky coating if I had to guess.

There's obviously a good market for items to beat traffic cameras and laser speed "guns", etc. I can't say I'm completely unsympathetic to these goals myself. Back in the days of the ridiculous 55 MPH national speed limit here in the US, I did most of my work traveling over many states, and did a lot of highway driving. I made good use of the original Escort radar detectors. They didn't have the laser (lidar) speed guns back then, and the Escort worked very well for the microwave radar speed guns, especially on the more or less empty long stretches of lonely highways in Wyoming, Montana, North and South Dakota, that I traveled extensively.

At this point, with speed limits of 80 mph on the rural interstates, I don't feel much desire to speed. But back then, 55 mph on highways engineered for 75 or 80 mph was sheer torture!

I have mixed feelings about traffic cameras as well. And that ties in directly with our LPR setups. I want to know who everyone else is, but I'd rather nobody know who I am. ;)

I'm right there with you on the ridiculous speed limits. I don't have a problem with speeding as a whole, as long as it is appropriate for the time and place.

This is my road

They regularly reach speeds of 50mph through here. Not appropriate at all, it's a 30 limit. 25 is a good speed.

Just waiting for a death before anyone will listen.
