As I previously written, we use HomeSeer 3 for our automation software. Coupled with a Blue Iris plugin for HomeSeer 3 and Blue Iris, we simply use two profiles: Day and Night. The schedule is called Active because both profiles can be active 24 hours a day.

When it becomes Daytime, HS3 changes the BI Profile to Day and likewise, when it becomes Nighttime, the Profile is changed to Night.

Here’s where it starts to get interesting.

When we are both home, the Kitchen and BI (laptop in our living room) are disabled so that people don’t get uppity that they are on camera. Also, we disable motion for our loft camera.

When I am at work and my wife is home (we use geofencing) we enable the BI camera so I can see and talk with the grandchildren.

When the house goes to sleep, all cameras are enabled and the interior cameras are set to trigger on motion.
