Ive ordered a new IPC-B5442T-ASE from Andy that will replace my 4431 which covers my driveway, I was thinking I could install the 4431 on the side of the house which is right on the road so I can get a great head on angle for cars to capture vehicle plates at night ? Are there any guides of the settings id need to make the plates legible at night ? we have 1 streetlight directly outside the driveway.

Thanks

Any camera withn reason can be used to capture tags. But all of the same conditions apply and each scene is going to require different settings.
LPR is part Art /part Science

Distance?
Angle of attack
Speed of vehicle
Available light and/or IR

That 1/3' sensor isnt ideal but if you can get close enough with a small angle of attack you may be able to make it work.

Generally night settings require a fast shutter speed (1/1000 - 1/2000) and lots of focused IR light

Hows that compare to what everyone seems to be recommending? IPC-HFW5241E-Z12E or IPC-HFW5231E-Z12E? ?

For LPR duty? not generally considered. As a general low light camera, not well against the 52xx series.
