The international cameras from Dahua and Hikvision are very good. Then make a lot of cameras for other vendors. But the most of the Dahua and Hikvision cameras on amazon and ebay are Chinese crap. They have multiple camera lines. You need to understand the part numbers.

One of the big tests for cameras is how well then work in low to no light at night. If set you correctly and you can not identify the face, you have a problem.

Read, study, learn before spending money.

Thanks for the Info... Great reading here. The more and more I read I think I will go with the Dahua NVR5232-16p-4KS2E 32ch with 16 PoE ports max support 12MP Resolution 4K NVR Reader

I take it that these units have multiable hard drive bays? and I have to add my own HD later?

Is this the store to by from in Aliexpress... Empire Technology Co., Ltd That is where the link took from in the Cliff Notes.

When you are in Aliexpress there are seems to be alot of sellers selling the same thing. Looks like Dahua Franchised Store has alot of good reviews also.
Hi @Kendive

If you're not under an immediate threat, do take some time to look at the cliff notes and the reviews of cameras here by members.

While the Cliff notes are heavily influenced by the better international Dahua OEM cameras which came out when we were putting the notes together - the basic principles apply to other OEMs and brands.

Also the "Dahua Franchised Store" - is just another vendor selling Dahua OEM products, not any more or less official than others.

Remember, in general be cautious with randomly selecting vendors as I have seen a significant amount of misrepresentation of products on vendor's pages on Ali, Ebay, Amazon, and others. Also we have seen a number of vendors game the ratings system, especially those based in China. Some brands have been especially bad - to the point of us, as a community, basically banning those brands from promoting their products here ( because they are junk brands and abusive / fraudulent companies )

I recommend you only go with vendors which members here recommend.

Note, Andy at EmpireTech is listed in the vendor section here and you can message him via email. He also does provide IPCT members with a slight discount, as we try to help each other out.

On the Dahua NVR5232-16p-4KS2:
NVRx2xx = holds 2 HDDs
NVRxx32 = 32 channels ( think camera feeds )
NVRxxx-16p-xx = 16 POE ports

Well I was gonna order a NVR and some cameras on aliexpress from Andy but you have to go through this appeal process with ali that takes maybe five days so I pulled out of there and cancelled my account. I guess I will go direct to him or amazon. That place seems shady to me and don't have the time to deal with that just to spend my money. I understand there is fraud and all but never had to deal with something like that... Oh well lol

I emailed Andy to see what we can work out.
Best option is to email Andy. Aliexpress can be a pain at times.

I did international software support for drilling operations for a Major oil company, work off shore Africa.

If you have not already done so get a good UPS for the NVR.

Thanks for sharing the pictures @Kendive

Noticed the NVR has ports 1-8 marked in green. Are they different than ports 8-16?

Looking forward to you sharing a few more pictures.

Well all is going well. Still playing around with the settings and temp hooked up 4 cameras. My Desk is a mess.

Hope you all have a Merry Christmas. Wife and I are flying up north to visit family for a while. So the NVR will be put on the back burner. I will start pulling new Cat 6 when I get back. Fun Stuff.

Here is another pic for you all excuse the mess. Before you ask yes that is an HK MP5 SD that I have torn apart on top of the NVR. Gotta rip the REVO crap out and get this thing going!!! LOL

I could use a few accessories to my security camera kit....

Here is the old Revo system... Can't wait to pull it. Wife don't want me doing it just yet fixing to head back to Africa for work and you know how they are it's all gonna fail while I am gone. LOL So I will wait to finish when I get back. :( I can still prep everything and I need to order some more cameras anyway!!!

And quite honestly I am getting sick of looking at Cat 6 cable ha ha...

I guess you all put them weather tight glans on the Cat 6 before you put an end on the camera side. They all came with the cheesy plastic weather tight glans?

Here is the pile of Cat 6 and one Cat 5E so far... My fingers hurt. That Cat 6 is some tuff stuff. I prefer working with the stranded Cat 5E for sure!!!

You can use them or not, but either way, put a dab of Dielectric grease in the female RJ45 jack, then insert the male portion, leave any that squeezes out. Then after the glan is put on wrap it good with Coax Seal tape.

Question for you pros out there... I have my shop/reloading area out back probably 20 to 25 yards away from the house. I have been using 2.4 Wireless cameras out there to see in the shop and one mounted outside to see house. I was thinking either bury a Cat6 cable and run into a POE switch and go from there orrrr buy them Ubiquiti Nano Station Loco M5 and set that up. Would be cool to play with those things because I have never own them.

I guess I could set up two of them like network bridge and the one at the shop have it connected to a POE switch with Ethernet Cable and then plug the cameras in. I take it the Nano stations are like a wired bridge???
I've installed a half dozen Ubiquiti Layer 2 Transparent Bridges here in Alabama which has some pretty bad lighting like Florida, as I avoid outdoor cable when I can. All have survived dozens of bad electrical storms over the last 5 years without a hitch.

Check out my drawing here that includes a link to the configuration and setup on UBNT's site. About the only change since then (May 2018) is UBNT now has a new small 5GHz radio that is the successor to the NSM5-Loco..it's the Loco5AC.
