i just got a DS-2CD2145F-IWS 4MP hikvision. It came with firmware V5.4.0 build 160401 and encoding V7.3 build 160401. I have tried direct to disc using both resolutions 1920x1080 and the higher 2560*1440 and the recorded video is not playable. The live cast plays perfect in real time from within blue iris but the recording is just playing noise. When I switch from direct to disc to encode as h264 then recorded files play as expected. However when I do this CPU utilization spikes to much higher levels, so I am in need to be able to record to disc in order to have CPU at acceptable levels. Is there something I am missing in order to correct this behavior?

The hikvision configuration for video is as follows.
Bitrate: variable
Video Quality: Higher
Frame Rate: 25
Max Bitrate: 6144
Video Encoding: H264
H264+: OFF
Profile: Main Profile
I Frame Interval: 40
SVC: ON

Just a guess, but try turning off SVC.

Also, if you were recording to MP4 then try BVR instead -- I've had trouble with MP4 in the past but I'm not sure it was related to direct to disc.

Thanks for the reply. Tried a few options now, SVC: OFF, I Frame Interval 50, Profile: Basic Profile. Also I am using Blue Iris container to be able to play while recording.

Still get the same result. Attaching screenshot of the artifacts. I did try mp4 vs dvr file and still video not playble. Wierd...

[EDIT]: Actually the 1080p mp4 file container is playable from other video players (divx player). Just not playable in blue iris.
