Hello,

Since fews days, i'm trying to find how to set this camera and how to optimise the EXIR illumination for the night vision.
I've installed this camera and on left side i've the wall of my house.
Firstable, the EXIR was in same side of the wall. It was not good ...
Then I put in the opposite side. But is not very better ...
I've tried some settings with WDR and other. But picture was too dark ...
I've an another camera : Varifocale with classic IR : Higher WDR is, best is the night vision (of course with the middle more white ...)
With EXIR it has not the same effect ....
I've then activated the BLC settings, and put noise reduction at 80%. I can have a better picture but very diificult to have a good picture ...

test.png

Is-it necessary to activate the BLC with EXIR camera ?
Is this bad quality is due to BLC ?
Where is the best position of EXIR Leds regarding the wall ?

Thanks in advance for all your advices.

I am I understand what problem you are having and the picture you attached does not show anything special.

Are you having a noise or an exposure problem?
For noise, it is better to use no exposure compensation or BLC only. WDR definitely adds noise.

Now, for BLC, the idea is to tune the proper exposure of the image so that you don't end up with an over- or under-exposed image. The best way to do this is to use Custom BLC and draw a rectangle around a nice gray area (as large as possible).

Note that as you play with BLC, you will notice that the noise level goes up when the scene is brighter. That is normal and not an issue with BLC: if you are asking the camera to increase exposure, all it can do at night is increase the gain, which also increases noise. BLC does not intrinsically increase noise level compared to no exposure compensation. However, if it brightens the scene, it will look more noisy.

The 2342 has reasonably good IR and noise levels, but you will still see noise unless you are indoor in a normal-size room.

Keep DNR at 50 or under to lessen the motion Blur (if that is the issue you are talking about) if your IR is too close to the wall i usually flip the camera upside down physically (so the IR is facing away from the wall) then in the software in Image -> mirror select up/down so that it'll flip it back correctly.

Hello,

LaurentR : WDR is off for this camera. On day, I've no problem. It's on night that I find the lightning by IR low. And playing with the BLC seems to give a better view but with bad quality. When you say to draw a rectangle, can i do that on night where the lightning IR is better or where it's darkness ?

Fruit : I already turned 180° the camera : Then camera is side wall and IR on other side

I will post tomorrow morning some snapshot with and without BLC.

The wall on the left is badly affecting the auto exposure with the bright IR reflection at night.
It will improve a lot if you angle the camera away from the wall.

On the motion blur - that's a typical consequence of DNR being set too high.
Experiment with lowering the setting.

Hello alastairstevenson,

I Will try to turn more the camera to the right to be at limit with the wall ... And do then anothers tests.
Firstable was a bullet here. IR are concentred a the center. Then was not the same trouble. But with bullet, the night vision is centered... Then on border, we see nothing...
Do you have some models where night vision is good in all the area of the camera (borders included ?)

The turret format of Hikvision cameras have strong IR that also has quite an even spread of illumination.

What @alastairstevenson said, if you elimiate the wall it will make a huge difference. Night vs day difference.

EXIR does have a better spread but you can tweak the bullet so the difference isn't huge. Keep Noise Reduction 10 or below for now. Turn off BLC/WDR etc for now too. Post new screenshots and we are all happy to chip in with ideas to help.

You have to play with settings first with Image>exposure time for moving object and second for lumination OF EXIR diod from Backlight Settings>BLC area /right, left and etc../

No. First step is to eliminate any nearby reflections for the IR, such as positioning camera so it does not have adjacent walls in the picture.

Then you can tweak the settings like BLC etc but trying to tweak away an inherent positioning problem is an uphill task.

Good evening,

Ok today was time to turn more the camera. Here a snapshot :

BLC and WDR are OFF

Regarding image settings, i've just reduced the contrast at 30 to reduce a little false detections with cloudes (Thats very difficult because i've false with all : detection, intrusion, line crossing-over . If i reduce sensibilty to much, it detect nothing then)

If you have some tips and tricks for night, they will be welcome

Hi all - I have the same camera's - where are these setting to turn on and off? I've looked all over the NVR interface and can't find them?

The NVR firmware (either native GUI through VGA/HDMI or web interface) can not access the advanced camera settings. You must access the web interface of the camera itself to configure advanced settings.

Thanks for the reply.

I've updated my Firmware and activated the Virtual Host option under networking - now I can access the camera's directly using the port forwarding the NVR creates.
