Since upgrading to this firmware (I believe) my second harddrive will not go to sleep. It's certainly not sleeping, I think it might have started after the upgrade. Any suggestions?

Where do you see that status? Presumably the HDMI/VGA interface. I run this headless, so don't usually see that interface.
Via the web GUI, status says 'Normal' for both HDDs on this 7816N-E2/8P running this firmware.
And also via the HDMI/VGA interface - out of curiosity I just hooked up a monitor and mouse.

The system log for 'Information type' just lists SMART info for Drive 1 - I don't know if that means anything.

*edit*
I don't know if it is because I unticked 'Enable sleeping' and then ticked it again in the web GUI storage management, but the status is now sleeping, as below:

It is, but since some point (I think update to .80), it was not sleeping. All this via Web, not via hdmi.

It definitely changed.

Under: Storage: Storage Management:HDD Management, there is a status that says "normal" for both my hard drives. In the past, one drive would say "sleeping".

But I seem to have fixed it. I formatted the drive again, loosing some ancient recordings. And it didn't seem to do anything (I did give it some time to go to sleep), but when i checked much later, the newly formatted hard drive was sleeping, as per the page above. Interestingly, there must be a fairly large time for the drive to go to sleep.

TLDR: formatting seems to have made my second drive "sleep".

Hi there, I have a DS-7608N-E2/8P running 3.3.4 firmware. Would love to upgrade to this new firmware version as it sounds like it fixes many of the issues I have. I can't link through to the Chinese site listed at the start of the thread but have downloaded the European EN version. I assume that the DVR I have is for the Chinese market, should I install the ML version or the English version. PS, I have never installed firmware before :)

I managed to upgrade the firmware on my Hikvision DS-7608N-E2/8P (has 8 poe ports) to current version of 3.4.80 Build 160718 (18th July 2016) hehehehehe ....

...I was nervous my language would be reset back to chinese but since its hacked into english already by seller, it worked fine for me.

I am happy as Larry
Hi Jacngo, would you be so kind of making the rest of us as happy as you (and Larry) by posting the modded FW you used?

Thanks!!

A web GUI update of a CN NVR that has EN menus will generally retain the EN menus by a setting held in the configuration file and retained / updated during the update, which is what was done here.
However - a reset to defaults will revert to menus linked to the original CN region of the NVR. Note that a tftp update will also reset to defaults. @ibruce - what model NVR do you have, what firmware is currently installed, and what changes / improvements are you looking for?

Thanks clarifying.
I have a DS-7608N-E2 / 8P running on V3.4.6 build 160405

Not looking for any specific changes/improvements, just wanted to make sure I'm on the most recent stable release that's all.

Also, my cameras are all DS-2CD2032-I running on V5.2.5 build 141201

Needless to say the above is CN and I want to keep EN version. What would you recommend to install as latest FW release for both the NVR and the cameras?

THANKS FROM A NOOB!!!

I think that changed with FW>3.4.0. Using the English GUI to upgrade the 3.4.0 FW to 3.4.2 which caused the 7816E1 to revert to Chinese. I went back to 3.0.10 using uart/u-boot and upgraded to 3.4.0 which left the NVR in English.

Thanks for that - I didn't know, as I've been running 'hacked to English' firmware from 3.3.4 onwards on my 7816N-E2 s for quite a while now.
It sounds like Hikvision closed off yet another feature that users found useful.

I updated via web-gui from 3.3.4 to 3.4.6 no problem. So you might want to try that jump.

hi all,

This worked for me. I upgraded my Chinese NVR firmware 3.4.62 to lastest 3.4.80 via the Web GUI like "alastairstevenson" quoted. It keep the language in English. BUT do not reset to defaults as it will change your NVR to chinese. Perform at own risk!

You live and you learn. I played with the wrong firmware on my NVR its now a brick! Need to fix it via serial console. Waiting for cables and adaptor to come from china hehehe.

Hi Jacngo, do you have a PTZ cam in your setup? if so, could you confirm that the new PTZ linking function is working on the 3.4.80 FW?

Hi ibruce,

If everything is working fine and perfect no need to upgrade coz you end up bricking your camera and NVR. You have the 3.4.62 which is good enough. Thats my recommendation and 2 cents worth hehehehe

I have been away from this forum for some time and it's kind of daunting how much changed in that time!

I have a DS-7632N-E2/8p NVR (FW v.3.0.8, build 140825) and 4 cameras running at my cottage

- 2 x DS-2CD2032-I (FW - v.5.2.5)
- 1 x DS-2CD2132F-IS (FW - v.5.30)
- 1 x DS-2CD2432F-IW (FW - v.5.3.3)

I would like to upgrade The NVR to, at the very least, get the Virtual Host feature and the Gmail fix.

Would upgrading to v3.4.80 make sense? Can I go straight from the current FW to this new version?

Is it a straight-forward exercise? (I have read through numerous posts about upgrading but I have only come away confused. I have not done an upgrade on the NVR before and I would prefer not to brick the device)

You will lose the telnet capability that 3.0.8 has, and there is a chance, depending on the apparent (if running hacked to English firmware) region of the camera you may bump into 'language mismatch' problems as you progress up the revisions of the NVR firmware.
You will lose the EN menus if you have to do a 'reset to defaults' or a tftp update at any time.
I don't know for sure if doing a single update across many versions will be problematic, as the web GUI update has done maybe 4 configuration file format updates / translations by the time you get to 3.4.80, so the question would be - does it play nicely and have the code to deal with a very old format, or will it just clear it?

In principle it's straightforward - do the update via the web GUI, in small steps.
