Another interesting varifocal cam: IPC-HFW8630E-Z

- 6MP (3072 x 2048)
- 1/1.8”
- Exmor R
- DWDR

sounds like Sony Starvis IMX178. :)

IMX178 doesn't have multiple exposure wdr (true wdr), only DWDR. But with 14 bit ADC, the DWDR could be nice, too.

$730 and free shipping for the english version on ali. But this is very expensive, too.

But Hikvision 4th-line is always expensive. Dahua smartline is cheaper, but of course more expensive than the eco-lines. We will see. ;-)

sweet, what was the damage?

I'm thinking of getting one for the back yard, very poor lighting conditions.

I asked the AliExpress seller i've ordered my dahua-ptz. He told me, he can book the cam now on dahua and added it to his store one hour ago.

Gotcha. I'd tried searching for one on Ali with no luck.

Does PAL mean anything other than frame rate for an ip camera?

Price is down to $170.99

Trying to resist...

the sub-stream resolutions are slightly better w/PAL, but other than that.. no, encoding is identical they work fine.

Could be imx178, but the same type of camera has been listed in Hikvision for a while, they are very costly at around $1k according to B&H

What usage would you recommend these for? Is 2MP VF better than the 6mm fixed lens turrets for a cam near the front door?
Or are you guys excited about this mainly for the low light capabilities?

In other words, would this camera (IPC-HDW5431R-Z):

I would, and perhaps will gladly pay ~$300 for a 6MP IMX178 Dahua.. and that extra zoom is just about perfect.. they are very good UHD low light performers, probably some of the best.. same sensor as the longse low light destroyer, but with a varifocal lens, from a reliable vendor whom knows how to make a camera that will last.
