It's a different type of camera
Box vs turrent - 2.7-12 vs 4.8-16 zoom - heat map - a few more advanced options

It's also twice the price.

On another note, I ordered 3 cameras and a NVR from Empire using PP.
Everything went smoothly. Should be here around the 15th I'm told.
The important thing is to contact Andy first and have him send you an invoice.
It normally takes 24hrs for a reply due to the time difference from US.
I have to admit, the communication is so much better than a lot of sellers that I've dealt with here in the states.

I think a lot of AliExpress payment problems are due to Alipay which I think is the service that processes CC's leaving in 2017.
So, they're closing ranks to avoid problems on the way out the door.
Not all Credit Card companies use "verified by Visa", Mine doesn't. They said don't use it because we won't verify.

I'm thinking of replacing 2 of my outdoor bullet Hikvision HI2CD2042WDI with this camera. Do you think it will do better?

I ran it for several years too; over a decade ago.. with analogue cameras; was never any good with IP Cameras; pay $60 for BlueIris if you want a PC NVR or use MileStone for free up to 8 cameras.

keeping mountains of jpeg images like ZM does is wastefull on storage space.. point of h264/h265 is to offer higher compression than MJPEG.

Does it work in FreeBSD or Linux?

thats basically moot since you should be dedicating hardware to the software and not dual purposing it; so the underlying OS has little relevance.. you wont be using it for anything else you can secure an out of date windows box pretty easy.

but if your really anti-microsoft; then you can check out BlueCherry.. it runs on Linux; or buy a Dahua hardware NVR thats running linux and learn to hack it.

note that Bluecherry does not support a mobile app for recorded video review. Exacq runs on linux....

I just wanted to add that I am in receipt of one of the new "S2" versions of this model (the model number on the camera includes S2 at the end). The only difference I can detect (at least in the camera I received) is the introduction of an audible "clicking" sound when zooming in and out. The previous version was near completely silent. The cam seems to function normally. If anyone here received the new model ending in S2, I would be curious if yours clicks as well. Regards...

Ok, I love the look of this camera, but will it play nice with a HIKVision NVR?

It should play nice; but dont expect any of the IVS features to work with your Hik.. and all the Dahua's will have to be configured directly through there own WebUI as the NVR wont config em.

The only Smugglers here in the UK is the Government not sellers or buyers.
Seems the EU customs charge the tax as their wish....80EUROS camera charge 35EUROS, this is in Italy. Italy customs is one of the worst customs in the world.
We don't ship goods to South American, esp Brazil! Always the parcels rejected by the customs.

Ok I am completely stumped on placing an order through ali express. I have tried 2 chase credit cards, American Express, and a Barclays card. Some fail immediately and others go through but then within 24 hours they say they fail unless I appeal and send in my social security info, passport, license, etc. ummm seriously?

Sent PM to empire on here. Whys the trick? Trying to order one of the 30x starlights for about $600

No trick, message Andy and he can send you an invoice via PayPal with a ballpark time. Basically skip the site.

I agree...The CC AE method is painful as it triggers fraud flags on my card each time. Citi called me both times within maybe 2 min. of placing the order and it being rejected, which was great Fraud follow up IMO.
Once I walked through it with them they opened it up for that transaction.

I'm thinking about trying PayPal next time though as it just seems easier.

But if you have any issue arise where you need a refund, PayPal, in my experiences, is not so helpful and can take a long time to get your money back if at all. Credit card companies, if they agree there was a fraudulent or non-legit issue will credit you back quicker...PayPal is NOT a bank so it does not have to abide by any of the same banking rules. again, just my experiences with both.
