I have had my new 5216 NVR with 16 POE ports for a couple of weeks now and its behavior has been pretty flakey. It typically takes a long time to boot up, and then after a few hours locks up. When booting it up again, it makes me go through the setup process again, like I was turning it on for the first time. The longest it has opperated for has been 2 days before locking up, and sometimes it does it within a few minutes. I have a new 6 TB WD Purple drive in it.

From what I have been reading it is most likely a bad hard drive?? I just want to get some feedback before I send back the drive for a new one. There seems to be 2 different models for Purple hard drives on Amazon, is there one that I should get over the other?

Sound like a defective NVR... Check with the seller to see if there is updated firmware...

Put the drive in a normal PC and run disk diagnostic tools on it..

if you take the drive out does it boot faster? mebe run it diskless just displaying feeds and see if it still crashes after time.. if problems all get better w/out the disk then its safe to start suspecting that.

Its hard to believe, but I don't actually have a normal PC to put the drive into.

However, upon removing the drive the NVR does not even boot up. It connects and discounts from the switch (I have been watching the activity light). The behavior seems worse so I am guessing it is not the drive. I will get this info to Andy and see what we can do.

Well the NVR just crapped out again. It stopped working after about 3 days. Now I cant get it to boot up. The power light comes on fan turns on, hard drive spins up. But no video out. I want to update the firmware, but cant see how to do that without the device booting up.
