Tinkering with my Dahua 5216. Found while setting trip wire up that I don't need to enable motion detection also. Otherwise it will alarm with any motion detection on screen. The regular motion detection stops with me walking at about 150 ft away. For the trip wire I made the maximum box about twice the size of a car, minimum box was about as small as I could get it, with trigger direction going up the drive. I discovered that the event log (only on the local NVR) shows a list of trip wire events with a play button. The smart PSS and config tool didn't show the detailed log. First time messing with it, didn't mess anything up . On the 2nd image I was backing up the driveway to trigger it.

Motion Detect and IVS are features that are independent of each other. I've disabled mine, too many false alarms in the outdoors environment.

Reading between the lines, it sounds like you're relying on an event log to determine if there were any "tripwire" events. Interesting.

Personally, I prefer the playback timeline. The green line will have yellow segments to signify an IVS event. You can then play the recorded footage at those points of interest.

Also in the Playback screen, you can ask for a "file list". Alarm events and their times will show up on the right.

In the pic below, "I" is marked at the right for the tripwire event at 9:03 am
And you can see the corresponding orange mark in the timeline for cam 3.
The red mark for cam one is an external sensor wired to the NVR alarm input.

I like this better than using logs....

That's what I was looking for on my timeline but couldn't find the marks. Only the present play point was showing. Strange...I'll have to try it again soon. Do you need to enable a certain button to make the marks appear?

No "certain button" needed.
But you do have to magnify the timeline.
See bottom of pic. Note the white slider. I've magnified the timeline.
Note the timestamps on the timeline. 10 minutes per hash mark.
Normally, the timeline shows a 24hr period in one screen. The orange and red events aren't big enough to be visible..

So:
1) magnify timeline or
2) use the event list w/ event times on the right. Then double click on an event, the playback will start there.

I'm still not seeing IVS marking on the timeline no matter if it is on 2hr, 1 hr or 30 minutes. Is there a menu button that enables/disables it? Or some setting under the IVS alarm?

Weird, I am having the same behavior. The IVS event appears in the log, however, I don't get the orange (yellow) line. I have zoomed in pretty close on the timeline and it is still not there. Also it does not appear on the file list the way yours does.

On my Dahua Tribrid DVR, I simply enabled the IVS recording in Setup (Storage/Schedule) to get the Orange bars. Just like MD and regular recording, they have to be setup to record first ;)

Bingo, that was the problem. You also need to remember to set it up for each channel. But once I did that I got my orange lines. Thank you very much.
