I just installed this camera for monitoring the driveway. Can read a license plate at 100ft in daytime. Very crisp image with wide dynamic range. Am happy with it.

I'll check into 123... Thanks.

What is your Hik camera connected to? Is it possible to order just the camera and test it without Blue Iris SW+HW or NVR? I'm looking to keep my 1080P system intact to continue monitoring, but it's incompatible with this camera. The ideal situation would be for me to connect it via Ethernet to my Sony Bravia 4k TV, but I don't think the TV can handle the protocol, i.e. it needs software running to bring in the video stream and properly display it. I may be wrong, but I simply don't know.

842 for this camera is an insane rippoff...its simply over priced. What do you need this for?

First you can't plug an IP camera directly into a TV and get a picture - not gonna happen.

Second as fender started that $850 price tag is seriously up their, especially depending on what you are actually trying to accomplish. I am hoping since LPR is referenced by cutter that is what it was purchased for and it also included the HIK LPR firmware/programing, if so I understand the price (sure you can configure and setup cheaper, but some will pay for simplicity and I get that). However, if this wasn't with HIK LPR support/functionality - that price is redonkulious

This thread is also relevant to my interests. How is the low light performance?

I've got a 3MP DS-2CD2632F-I(S) varifocal camera on my driveway at a vacation house but the low light performance is just downright miserable. I know the new 4MP versions are better but I want to make a quantum leap moreso than just an incremental improvement.

With that in mind I was kicking around the DS-2CD4A26FWD-IZH (2MP) darkfighter but if I could get more resolution with the DS-2CD4A85F-IZH (4k) and still have decent low light performance compared to my current "budget" camera then I would be happy.

I've got a bunch of DS-2CD4065F-A (6MP) box cameras at work at they just kick ass and take names in low light. I'm guessing part of that is the large 1/1.8" sensor similar which is similar in size to the sensors on the aforementioned cameras. If the DS-2CD4A85F-IZH (4k) could match that performance then I'd opt for the higher resolution.

It's too bad that there isn't another site/blog out there like Network Camera Critic. His site was great for getting a real world idea of what different cameras could achieve.

I have indeed looked at Dahua Starlight cameras. They look awesome but a couple years ago I standardized on Hikvision so that my NVRs and viewer apps were "harmonized" across a single brand. I've got 3 different locations that I have simultaneously linked to Hikvision iVMS apps on both my desktops and my phone.

I'm hesitant because I don't know how well a Dahua camera will play with a Hikvision NVR or iVMS application. My current setup is seamless and has never choked on me since I set it up. I think I have a 3MP Dahua budget camera in my closet so I could always pull that out and see how well it plays with my Hikvision stuff.

If I did go 2MP and Dahua, I still think I'd step it up to their "Ultra Starlight" camera with the 1/1.9" sensor. Nayr's comparison at the link you provided shows a pretty considerable leap between "Eco Starlight" and the "Ultra Starlight". I'm willing to spend the extra money either way (Hikvision or Dahua).

Thanks for that link by the way. Good info.

Thank you for letting me know that I can't plug an IP camera directly into a TV via the Ethernet port.

Now I haven't checked this out yet, but I just bought a 4k TV for the very purpose of monitoring 7-10 4k cameras, some of which will be static focal lengths while two will be PTZ. Now this new TV is a Sony XBR-65X850D, and it is Android based. The Google Play Store has an app called IP Cam Viewer. It comes in 3 flavors, one of which is the paid app IP Cam Viewer Pro. I'd like to order the camera without the NVR and test drive it using this app. Does anyone here know how to pipe IP cam video into the TV such that this app can set up the camera and view the video?

I know some of you guys mean well by questioning the price vs. performance, but if you have no knowledge of this camera, please reserve your opinions as they mean nothing to me. I am looking for someone with direct experience, like cutterman above. If anyone has experience with this Android app, I'd like to hear it. Thanks.

Run Android App on TV and plug in Camera IP and login info that you setup via your home pc. Your initial setup of the camera though will most likely need to be done via a PC on the same network vs. trying to monkey around with a 3rd party software mobile application.

Also once you throw a multi camera matrix up on the screen viewing all cameras at once you have defeated your 4k resolution and over spent on your viewing monitor/platform. The only time this is really going to come into play would be during single stream replay.

Also - not having first hand knowledge of this camera does not mean that one can not point you to a better priced alternative. So if we're going to take polite pot shots I'll leave you with another assumption - Your not comfortable with this technology or your project, this shows in the fact you were going to try and connect a camera directly to a TV via ethernet, this also shows that you have gone out and purchased all 4K hardware thinking you have the best of the best, but yet you have still handicapped portions of your setup. So while others may offer insight without first hand experience, said insight may still be worth listening to in your case.

One final note - understand your overall bandwidth requirements of a setup like this. You put 7-10 5mp cameras running high/highest quality @ 20fps you are going to be pushing 150 - 200mb of total overall bandwidth, choose your NVR carefully.
