No reason not to do 2 orders. No guarantees on when you'll be able to get exactly what you want, so buy what you can now and wait on the rest. I ended up with 3 orders.
Yup, took your advice. @EMPIRETECANDY , new order from me. Waiting on arrival of Turrets and Mini-domes.

My apologies nosnoop and others for any misunderstanding I may have caused. :)

On the other hand, I look forward to integrating this camera on the network soon.

Arjun, what you are doing is called spamming this thread. Just count the number of posts you made in the past few days in this thread alone. This thread is not about you and your order. Please don't do this again.

Based on the info in this thread (thanks all), I plan to order from Andy. This is my first ip cam system. Does it look complete?

  • 6-8 cameras, IPC-HDW5231R-Z, $170 each
  • 1 NVR, 5216-16P-4KS2, $360
  • 2 WD Purple HDD 4.0Tb
  • mounts, (not sure which ones, I will be mounting under flat eaves), $? included per Andy
  • 6-8 Cat6 cables, longest run about 200 ft (recommendation on where to buy?)
Best way to order from Andy/Empire is to message him here and pay via Paypal?
Pre-cut wire is typically too long or short for your runs, thus

Recommend: 1-2x 1000ft box of cat6
If you want to pull 2 lines at a time it is nice to have 2 boxes to pull from,
if you plan to only pull one line at a time then 1 box works fine.
Calculate the lengths of the runs to get an idea of how many boxes to buy.

Cat 6 Bulk Ethernet Cables - Monoprice.com

you will also need RJ45 connectors and a crimper
RJ-45 MODULAR PLUGS RJ45 - 100 PACK FOR STRANDED CABLE - Monoprice.com
[ editted - update the above is for stranded cable, as pointed out by Zeddy you will want plugs for solid cable... pls see Dahua Starlight Varifocal Turret (IPC-HDW5231R-Z) ]

various prices / models for the crimper tool - the cheapest one got decent reviews, I spent a bit more and got a nicer one which also had good reviews.
Professional Modular Crimps, Strips, & Cuts Tool - Monoprice.com

note monoprice often has discount codes.. such as 15% off with 15SPRING

Fora PoE switch I recently purchased one of these. It's the cheapest I could find that supports 802.3at PoE+ which I need for my APs and future proof. It works great and as far as managed switches go it's got a reasonably easy web interface if your a beginner. Vlan support also so you can create a secure network for your cameras.

HP J9146A 24G POE+ AL External Switch Managed USED TESTED QTY AVAIL 884420766971 | eBay

I got it for $130 shipped with the best offer option.

Thanks! I've been looking for something which would work well, a Gigabit switch and PoE+ at that price point is really nice.

If I've learned anything in all these years of working with PC's it is that there is no such thing as future proof. Was supposed to be smiley emojis here so would know it was in jest, lol.

How is it sound-wise?

It's an enterprise grade switch. I wouldn't recommend putting it anywhere where noise is a concern. The fans are audible to say the least. Mines located in a half height network cabinet in my garage.

In a basement should also be suitable

The dude is keeping track of 11enty billion messages, if you don't wanna wait go elsewhere, I'd be curious to know if you can get these from anyone else on AliExpress that are not the cheap Chinese market versions
I bought 5 IPC-HDW5231R-Z Starlights from Dragoneye Security Camera Ltd on Ali Express and they arrived in CA I think 10 days after I ordered. The cameras were a good price. Shipping was expensive, but it didn't bother me. I had no luck dealing with Empire so I took a chance and I was happy with the result.

The RJ-45 crimps you linked to are for stranded cable, you'll need the solid core ones.

Thanks everyone for the feedback.
  • I'll consider a separate POE switch and the non POE NVR.
  • I'll get connectors and the crimper tool, and 2 boxes of bulk Cat6, solid core, for ease to run two lines to the same area
You don't necessarily need 2 boxes. I ran 3 at a time getting some of the cables for my cameras set up. One fed out of the box and the other 2 were pre-measured and cut (lots of spare line on each precut one for insurance). One of my kids made sure the lines were being fed in straight as I was pulling them through the house. No issues at all. Btw, if you tie on a line to the bundle to be able to pull another line sometime in the future, use the poly or nylon line available at your favorite hardware store. Regular string will dry rot eventually and break.

Definitely have someone help you, as the cables can snag and form tight loops which when pulled too hard can cause a hairline break in the cable.

Poly / nylon line is a great idea..

Remember to keep some distance between the ethernet cable and the electrical lines / EMF sources ( Florescent lights especially )
Note: Electrical lines in EMT ( metal ) conduit are shielded so you can actually run the ethernet next to it if needed.

Can I use the turret as it lays flat on a table or shelf, not hung up? I am guessing that I can, but want to double check. Thanks.

I already had an Aliexpress account and I used that to order the camera from Andy. So it looks like my camera will be going out within a week or so. I am in no hurry as this is more of an experiment to replace an already working Hikvison camera.
