No matter what adjustments I make, the best I can do is soften the glare at best. I can do this using Manual or Zoomprio settings. I guess the are I'm looking at most, is just too close. Distance is about 16 feet away. I may have to go with external IR in more of a flood type for a wider area. Or relocate this cam and use 2 5231's instead. I really like the daytime pic and moveability of this cam, especially for watching the bird feeders.Did you try adjusting the IR Light?

Have you tried clicking the "lens initialize" button? Can you manually focus beyond that using the + and - Keys?I'm now in touch with Andy on the focus issue. The camera will not focus beyond two or three inches. Everything beyond that is blurred. I hope that Andy has an easy fix because I don't want to have to deal with getting this camera back to Asia.
Yeah, you're not going to be able to do much more with that scene. The wires aren't helping matters, but the biggest issue as I see it is you're trying to illuminate a wall that's almost parallel to the camera view. In order to properly illuminate the farther-away portion of the wall, the closer part is going to be over-exposed. Properly expose for the part of the wall close to the light (which is being done in this example) and the distant parts of the wall are going to be under-exposed. Notice the spotlighting effect is much more pronounced on the top-left side of the image. You'll probably need some external lights in this case, preferably one closer to the cam and one in the distance to help even the lighting against that wall.This is the FOV:

I didn't know about the lens initialize button. I appreciate the tip. Unfortunately, that didn't help. The camera simply won't focus until the zoom level is 3 or greater, even with use of the + and - keys. There simply isn't enough travel. I very much need the widest view, so the camera is of little use to me at present.Have you tried clicking the "lens initialize" button? Can you manually focus beyond that using the + and - Keys?
Unfortunately, you may have gotten another lemon. I've got a bunch of bugs and issues with mine. Few reports of units not focusing in low light, but I'm assuming lightning conditions don't matter in your case.
If you have to send it back, it would be a big cost savings if you could take the unit apart and simply send back the small camera module inside without the heavy housing and pan/tilt motors. Whether they would work with you on that or expect the whole unit, I don't know...Please keep us posted on your results.
Hmm, I imagine you've tried restarting the unit...If so, that's a quick and simple option to test. Also you could try resetting to default. That's been known to clear up some bugs in the past, although I have my doubts that it would do any good for this problem. This sounds more like either the lens or the focus motor is defective or not installed correctly.I didn't know about the lens initialize button. I appreciate the tip. Unfortunately, that didn't help. Andy responded to my email and asked for more information. I imagine that he is working on a solution. I'm willing to engage in surgery on the camera if Andy can provide clear instructions and without risk to my ability to return the camera. BTW, I ordered from Andy because of his great reputation on this forum although I could have purchased the same item for less from other sellers.
That sounds like it should be a great cam. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't the one I ordered (5231 turret cam).I assumed it's the camera matching the thread title and on page one.
can be done with presets toI was just reading the API document and found that this camera allows control over its absolute position, which means you can craft a URL to select horizontal degrees between 0 and 360, vertical between 0 and 90 and zoom multiplier.
For example:
http://IP/cgi-bin/ptz.cgi?action=start&channel=0&code=PositionABS&arg1=180&arg2=45&arg3=0
arg1=pan
arg2=tilt
arg3=zoom
Of course, but this allows you to go to any location without setting a preset. Not sure what use it would have yet.can be done with presets to
Jet, looks great! Any issues when the wind picks up since this unit does not have image stabilization? Did you install the pole and if so, how deep is its foundation? Looking to do something similar and want to make sure the pole is not under engineered. By the way I would blurr out the address if I was you, but if you see a runner checking out your setup, I come in peaceI have the mount and from my understanding it doesn't get ordered that often. I have a SD59230U_HNI on it fixed to a 4" pole using some U bolts and using the standard PFA110 that came with the camera.
