NVR cannot see cameras, but SADPTools can?

Hi,
I am hoping to get some help at all and this may be a little bit of a long read as I am not sure if all information is pertinent.
I bought 10 Hikvision cameras and a DS-7616NI-I2/16P NVR as I was building a new house, and they arrived a few months before I moved in. I tested all the cameras and the NVR for a few days before packing them away until the house was built.

We moved in to the new house and had the cameras installed (I am doing the set up myself) and connected the cameras to the NVR and I get No Link on all cameras.
I have since turned my Wifi into an access point so the IP range of the network is different in the new house and I think that may be the issue I am having at the new house, but have reset one of the cameras as a test and it still doesn't show up on the NVR but I can see it on SADPTools (When I connect my Laptop directly to the NVR) Does anyone have any hints or pointers on what I can do to get the NVR to see the cameras, as when I tested them, as soon as I clicked them in, they were picked up instantly.

The only way I was able to see any of the cameras listed on the NVR was to connect one of the POE ports directly to my router and they would show up, but would not be able to be added as there is already all ports used by the NVR, even though none of them connect.

My IP range from my local network is 192.168.0.* and the cameras are 192.168.254.* (As supplied by the NVR)

One last anomaly is that when I connect my Laptop directly to the NVR it will not supply me an IP in the 192.168.254 range (I get a 192.254.241.* range) and I can only connect to it by setting a Static IP regardless of whether DHCP is enabled or disabled on the NVR.

If you need any more information feel free to ask and I will do my best to answer.

You haven't said what actual IP addresses SADP showed on the cameras when they are seen by SADP. This would likely confirm that you have set their IP addresses to a value different from the range that the NVR PoE interface uses.

In the NVR web GUI, note down the IP addresses assigned to the NVR PoE ports.
These will be, as you noted, something like 192.168.254.2 and up. Make sure that each channel has the camera password correctly set.
With the laptop wired to a spare NVR PoE port you have shown that you can access the cameras with SADP, and presumably you know what password you have set on them.
Using SADP, change the IP address of each camera to match the IP address of the corresponding NVR PoE port IP address the camera is plugged in to, that you noted down. Set the camera default gateway to 192.168.254.1
At this point, the NVR should see the cameras.

Thanks for the tips, the IP range that all the IP address are 192.168.254.2 - 192.168.254.9 (Currently using an 8 Port, but was the same with the 16 Port) and the camera IP's have been changed to match the NVR's IP's.
I have also made sure that the default Gateway is 192.168.254.1. They still dont show up and I am not sure what else I can do now.

The only way I can set a password to each channel is to set it to Manual, but with either Manual or Plug N Play it doesnt find anything at all. I am not sure what I am doing wrong, but your tips gave me some hope.
I have attached a photo of the list of cameras on the NVR:-

What IP address is set on the NVR itself? i.e. what IP address does it want you to use when you connect to the GUI?

It has a IP of 192.168.0.36. All the cameras have the same IP range as the numbers listed in the NVR and I've set the default gateway to match the NVR's internal NIC. Still nothing showing up, I've reset cameras and the NVR and have had no joy, I'm at a loss as to what's gone wrong.

What model of Hikvision cameras are they?
If you connect the PC to an unused NVR PoE port (you don't need to change the PC IP address) what all do you see with SADP, and on what addresses?

With discovery tools like that which broadcast on an x.x.x.0 basis, they can only see devices on the same subnet - i.e. It's broadcasting a discovery request to the 192.168.0 segment. Anything which isn't on that segment - like your cams on the 192.168.254.x - won't ever be discovered.

That is the only way I am able to see the cameras, and they are all on 192.168.254.2-9 (or 2-17 with the 16 port NVR) and the NVR is given the IP of 192.168.0.36 from the Router. I cannot change that IP to match the 192.168.254.1 as it obviously clashes with it. I cannot remember what IP the NVR had at the old house when I was testing it.

How can I get it to broadcast on the 192.168.254 segment as opposed to the 192.168.0 segment that the Router supplies?

So let me make sure I'm seeing this topology correctly:

Cameras wired to NVR, which acts as a DCHP server for the 192.168.254.x subnet and gives cameras addresses in that range.

Router wired to NVR, and supplies it with an address in the .0.x range.

Where does wireless factor into this map?

Wireless is as an access point so uses the same IP range as wired.
Not sure why the NVR won't give my laptop an IP in the 192.168.254 range, but I can still see the cameras from my Laptop.

The laptop is not a camera - the NVR directly configures cameras when it has admin access to them.
There is no DHCP server in the NVR in the way that a router has one.
Ah thanks for that, I thought I was all good to set it up and I am being such a noob!

When I set the cameras to DHCP on SADP Tool, they are also not given the 192.168.254 IP range and is given the same range that the Laptop is given, could there be an issue with the NVR giving out IP's?

When I connected the cameras at the old house the NVR saw them instantly, but I cannot even get it to show that I have connected anything at all here and that is what has stumped me.

I had a number of issues getting basic connectivity with a Hikvision DS-7601 NVR, it looks to have a similar interface.

You have to assign IP addresses manually to your cameras in the 192.168.254.x range. Set the NVR channels to manual as well, not plug n play. Use the SADP tool to set your cameras IP addresses to the 192.168.254.x range. Also make sure your duplex settings and password are correct on the camera and NVR - 10/100 auto should work.

I've had to keep my home network and camera network on totally separate subnets. Your NVR can of course have one connection on your home network via its LAN port (not the NVR PoE ports).

Thanks for the I had already tried that and it still didn't work. I do think it is some deeper issue to do with my network, which I have to troubleshoot. Its just such a pain!
