I go with no, I would not care for it.

Reasons:
All bullet cameras
24 LEDs providing only 20M of IR - which means you'll be lucky to get 10M
All same lens 3.8 - which is better than other kits that are 2.8, but still all same
Only 1 HD, which is prob. fine for some, but better to have support for 2 depending on recording desires/archieve preferences
Cables included are only 60' so unless your comfortable making and installing your own you'll prob. be short
finally, I"m not a fan of preboxed kits especially no name hardware ones.

Well for what I need it's a good buy, 8 channel system that comes with 4 Cameras, Offers true Plug and Play with a built-in Poe+, offers true Plug and Play with a 1080p. The system didn't come with a HD but that fine for me, because I have a few just laying around. Cables are only 65 feet however that all I need. the cameras offer 2.0 Megapixel Aluminum Housing Material,IP66 water resistance. The NVR with Face Detection or so it says. And it also comes with 2 years Warranty whatever that means. I'm only going to use 2 of the 4 bullet cameras and hope to install two other cameras onto the system. This is where I need some help, the two cameras are

Sricam AP004 720P 5x Optical Zoom Pan Tilt H.264 ptz wifi ip network camera Outdoor CCTV Dome Camera. I have lost the CD that came with this camera or may have thrown it away because of virus on cd.

Trendnet TV-IP512WN. I still have the CD that came with it.

My hopes are to get the PTZ and Ip512 installed and working. Not sure how to do that as of yet. Everything is made in China so there is a lot of What If's
all suggestions are welcome
thanks

The chances of you getting your other cameras to work with that NVR are slim to none. I find it HIGHLY unlikely you will get that PTZ to work especially with controls. Also you asked "Is this is a good buy" - I told you why in my eyes it was NOT. If you already know it's a good buy for your "Needs" then why start a thread?!? This is inferior hardware to the majority of the users of this forum and it could be on sale for $99 and it is still of $0 value to me. You can have 50 inferior cameras placed around your house and they will not come close to simply having 4 or 5 well placed quality cameras.

You may be able to get a standard ONVIF video stream from the cameras to the NVR, but you won't get advanced features or PTZ functions most likely.

I still have a few days to return the system do you have any suggestions as the PTZ is the most important part along with email notification. I don't want to spend big bucks on a system, however, it's a source of entertainment as I don't get out much.

What do you "want/need" and what is your end budget? What are you trying to accomplish with the hardware?

If your budget is $300 there isn't really any recommendation for a PTZ, cameras and NVR I can make in that price range.

Can u recommend a IP based NVR with 4 to 8 channels? It would need to support PTZ and motion detection as well as email alerts. Are the specs from China made systems just ibullsh.....? By the way thanks for the help!

@UBBad ... is your total budget $300?

Like in anything in life... especially in IP cameras/nvr's... you absolutely get what you paid for!

If you want to be cheap and buy cheap... then your going to get crap quality thats going to probably fail in a few months with no technical support from any company with terrible quality and reliability.

Trust me I've made the mistake in wanting to go cheap and it was a complete waste of money.

If you want something that going to last a long time, something that your not going to have to tinker with daily or reset because it stops working then I would suggest a quality POE IP cameras such as any Dahua and a dedicated PC setup running Blue Iris.

You might spend $800 or so for a decent quality system but you will be MUCH happier with the results.

Lastly you will not find an outdoor PTZ camera for less than $300 that I would even consider touching.

Just my .02

Thanks Dasstrum for the advice, up to this point everything has just been negative on here. I'm packing up the system to return today, so at this point I'm just out my time trying to get things to work. I will look into Dahua cameras and see what they have to offer, as for blue iris it will be another learning experience for me. Thanks again I'm always open for suggestions.

Again it all depends on what you are wanting out of a system. You and I are different. If I am needing to use and review camera footage then 99% of the time I am wanting to identify the person in the video. Nothing to me would be more frustrating then trying to show footage of someone breaking into my car to police and the person is completely unrecognizable because I didn't spend the money for a quality camera.

If you trying to figure out which neighborhood dog is pooping in your front yard then maybe that $300 system is all you need. Everyone is different in their needs.

As for Blue Iris I use it and LOVE it. It has tons of features but it relatively easy to use. They offer a free trial version. We are all here for questions and I definitely learned a lot here... especially what not to do lol

Thanks, zero-degrees, that's so impressive video. Now we are getting somewhere. Thanks much for the info. Looking like putting together a PC & using Blue Iris. I looked at a program called ispy however, Norton say could have a virus. Do you have any opinion on ispy. After Norton tagged it, didin't want to install.

If your going to Blue Iris route just remember you need a decently beefy cpu depending on how many cameras your running.

I recommend if your on a budget buying a off lease HP Compaq from eBay. I can pick up a 4th gen i5 computer with 4gig ram for around $100. I'll see if I can find ya one if you want.

I've bought a few of these computers and they come in dang near brand new looking and run flawless.

Thanks Dasstrum, I may need your help, i'm retired IT so the pc part is right down my alley having built several myself. The project may take a little time as it seems like not enough time in a day. Now the camera's and the NRV or NRV software is where i'll need the help?

You can't go wrong with pretty much any Dahua camera. Just make sure you buy cameras that are IP (POE preferred so you dont need to run seperate line for power) and not analog.

The Blue Iris software is fairly easy and they have built in a good 'help' section
