CMVision IR9 Illuminator

Had this for a few months and finally mounted it up to help out a crappy 4mp hikvision turret.

Pretty happy with it, has a much wider beam than my other one, a Univivi U06R which is more like a spotlight, narrow beam with decent throw.

The mounting base is like a camera and much easier to mount and adjust, plus it hides the wire. I ordered a couple more, hope they last. Here is a comparison, it's mounted 3 feet behind the camera under the roof overhang.

Nice improvement.

I wonder if I can use something like this with the Mini PTZ 4X and turn off the IR on the camera??

You seem to be the first to complain about Hikvision Turrent cams. I thought they were considered the cream of the crop from some folks. How does it perform without the aid of the CMVision?

I have their CMVisions IR110 Illuminator. Didn't hook it up outside yet because it requires 110 Power. I can't say much for the quality of the unit tho. They have a real cheaply done swivel at the base of the main LED platform. Torque screw is very small and the soft metal threading stips way to easy. Mine stripped the first time I tightened it. :mad-new:

I did some minimal testing inside my backyard with an extension cord. Noticed right away that all that light washes out the detail of a person walking towards it at close range. I'll do some experimenting tonight with the unit and test it out front where my street cam is pointed.

Ill post some some results as well later.

The top picture is without the external IR, the bottom is with external IR. The turret is fine until you see it next to a Darkfighter or a Longsi s500 with big sensor. Turret has too much noise, turn up noise reduction then you see ghosts. I have my illuminator pointed about horizontal, the spill is enough for the foreground without blowing everything out. Still need to play around with it more though.
I just ran some 16g wire to the light to the inside next to an 120 outlet where my transformer is. The swivel is cheap but way nicer than those with the flat bar bracket with exposed wire, those are hard to get to the mounting screws and makes it difficult to get angles when mounted to a vertical wall.

When you said 3 feet behind, would you say its about the same height as the camera itself?

Yes on the same soffit, same height aimed at a similar angle to the camera, just a little more to the left.

Thanks i'm trying to decide where to mount mine as i have 3 of mine mounted on soffits as well.

Is your CMVision IR9 still working reliably?

So far it's working fine, no problems.
