I'm ready to take a plunge into the Dahua ecosystem. I figured I might need at least 10 cameras. So, I've decided to go with the 16 channel, 8 port NVR (NVR-5216-8P-4KS2).

I just purchased this 8 port 124W POE+ switch (a steal at $60 at both Amazon and B&H)
Amazon.com: TP-Link 8-Port Gigabit Ethernet PoE+ Rackmount Energy-efficient Switch with 124W 8-PoE+ Ports (TL-SG1008PE): Computers & Accessories
TP-Link TL-SG1008PE 8-Port Gigabit Unmanaged Desktop TL-SG1008PE

Can I run my setup this way?

Router -> NVR -> 8 Port Switch -> 8 cameras
Router -> NVR -> 2 NVR Ports -> 2 cameras

Thanks.

I'm also looking at buying the NVR5216 within the next couple of months. Very interested to know the progress of your purchase and install. I started looking at 8 channel, but realised the 16 channel gives greater flexibility with the cameras. For cameras, I'm going for SD22204T as they give me greater flexibility and quicker installation time than the fixed domes. I also like the fact they are the same size as fixed domes. I've yet to get it working standalone, so I'm hoping the NVR5216 works better through an IOS app. Will you be accessing your NVR via an app?

Yes, I purposely didn't want the IR emitters on the camera. I'll have motion sensing lights or will be using external IR floodlights.
you will be much better off with a dahua starlight varifocal turret...motion sensing lights are not ideal because the camera needs to adjust and you miss footage that occurs before they turn on...

You could always buy cams that have have Smart IR and hit the disable button, then if you someday decide you might want to move it to a area that needs it or your other plans do not work out they way you think, the IR feature will be in place.

I will certainly try out a starlight turret. I just like the very small form factor of the sd22204t and that it is ptz, so I don't need to go out and readjust the view. If there is a starlight ptz of that size I may be tempted. I'm going to post my review of the sd22204t on a new thread as there doesn't appear to be very much information.

There are YouTube videos...the low light performance is poor without ir..
You don't need pt simply adjust it once and you are done....

The debate over PTZ's versus fixed-view cameras is an ongoing one. Fixed cams are actually more secure, because the intruder (if it's set up correctly) will always be in view. Are you going to be sitting and watching, then possibly moving the cam 24/7? I don't think so. Also, the cam you are looking at is not designed for outside use, if that's where you will be using it. It will sooner or later, fail. It's also not waterproof or vandal proof in any way.
