Hi guys,

sony anounced a new very great sensor.

- 10.71 MP
- very big sensor: 4/3"
- the current lowlight champion (IMX185 - Hikvision Darkfighter) uses 3.75um pixels and old fsi-technology, the new 10.71 MP one uses bigger 4.63um pixels and modern bsi-technology, it's a starvis-sensor.
- no multiple exposure wdr, quad bayer HDR instead. There is no time difference between long-time integration and short-time integration, which realizes HDR with little blending offset when imaging moving
subjects.

This sensor will kick all currently used sensors in performance :) and price :-(

The minimum illumination of the Starvis in Dahua 2MP cameras is listed as:
1/2.8"
0.006Lux/F1.4 ( Color,1/3s,30IRE)
0.05Lux/F1.4 ( Color,1/30s,30IRE)
0Lux/F1.4 (IR on)

But the minimum illumination of the Starvis in Dahua 8MP cameras is listed as:
1/2.5"
0.05Lux/F1.4 (Color,1/3s,30IRE)
0.2Lux/F1.4 (Color,1/30s,30IRE)
0Lux/F1.4(IR on)

I was thinking the illumination of all Starvis sensors would be close to the same, but it seems like it drops as the MP increases.

So in that sense, a 2 MP Starvis is still going to kick a 10 MP Starvis in terms of how well it performs in low light?

It drops because the pixelsize decreases and it all uses nearly the same technology.

The sensitivity depends mainly on the pixel-size and the technology (mainly bsi vs. fsi).

Just compare the pixel size.
The Dahua Ultra-Smart Starlight 2MP (except the 8232) uses the Sony IMX290 with a sensorsize of 1/2.8" and a pixelsize of 2.9um
The Dahua Eco Starlight 2MP uses the Sony IMX291 with a sensorsize of 1/2.8" and a pixelsize of 2.9um
The Dahua Ultra-Smart Starlight 3MP uses the Sony IMX123 with a sensorsize of 1/2.8" and a pixelsize of 2.5um (more pixel on the same sensor size reduces the pixelsize)
The Dahua Eco 8MP uses the Sony IMX274 with a sensorsize of 1/2.5" and a pixelsize of 1.62um
The Dahua Ultra-Smart 6MP uses the Sony IMX178 with a sensorsize of 1/1.8" and a pixelsize of 2.4um

The new IMX294 has a sensorsize of 4/3" and a pixelsize of 4.63um.

All of the sensors above uses the better bsi-technology.

Do you now understand?

So the new IMX294 with a larger pixel size (4.63 um) should have better low-light sensitivity than the 2.9 um pixel size in the Eco Starlight 2MP turrets that I'm using?

Looks good.
The micro four thirds format is going to seriously bump up the cost of the optics.

Yup, the cameras themselves will likely be larger too, just to make room for a larger sensor and lens.

I'm expecting prices to be high enough that few of us buy a single one.

IPC-HF is always without lens,IPC-HFW is bullet with lens, IPC-HDBW is Dome with lens.

I'm looking forward to see a Dahua Cam with IMX294 as IPC-HDBW. ;)

Nah, you just put it in a good enclosure and then it is fine in all weather. Makes it really huge but people have been doing it with box cameras for years.

The IP version, IPC-HF8835F, is listed on their website too now.

@EMPIRETECANDY you have a price for it yet? :)
Tomorrow i will make a checking for the camera price, i will go to dahua exhibition this Tuesday, i will go there to watch the latest new tech and new models, will share here. For the price no worry, will work out a good price.
