Is the 60 usd a once off price? Have not seen it stated as yearly or any other recurring period anywhere?

If it a once off then WOW! Very decent price as software goes....

one time fee...when version 5 comes out you will have to buy again, in the past it has been at half price to upgrade....support after 1 year is extra...

Bargain then! Not many developers out there charge once off anymore. (which is fair enough)

I see a USD $45 package on AMZ by Amcrest - I am guessing buying directly from the Blue Iris website will put more money into the developer's hands?

I have been watching Blue Iris for a long time and I'm finally ready to buy, I think.

yes, and out of the hands of amcrest, which is the successor to foscam digital technologies - a houston based foscam distributor...who left customers hanging....

I appreciate the info - I will buy directly when I do.

I have a motley collection of IP cams collected over 13 years and it will interesting to see how I can mesh them into a "system" with Blue Iris.

I live a "quiet area" but its getting less quiet every year.

Yes, I saw that one, as well as the one for $58.50 by Blue Iris fulfilled by AMZ...and I still went direct from Blue Iris website. $1.50 wasn't much...so why make them pay a marketing fee to AMZ? The issue I had with the Amcrest package is what level of brand specific customization was there from initial splash page promoting their brand to potentially deleting some features that their cameras/NVR didn't accommodate. The write up just wasn't clear on that but was conscious of that having experienced the Lorex software that was a rebranding of the Dahua software for their NVR without the most recent updates.

I appreciate you all directing me to the optional path of maximum return to a worthy Developer. Its good to know that I could get it cheaper but I just paid $59.95 directly.

If money were real tight I might have chosen another path. Get ready for "duh" newb questions in the weeks ahead.

I have downloaded BI (but not installed it) and I've been reading 2 to 3 hours a day. I watched a few videos. I'm stalking a lot of used Dell desktops at a local surplus auction (read the BI Hardware guide).

I have new Netgear PoE Switch on order (AMZ Warehouse deal - open box). I dismounted 2 of my my old Axis P3343s and I have a line on a Dahua Starlight Turret (HDW5231R-Z).

I plan to stage everything on the bench before I hang anything back up. I have some twisted pair to run for a driveway cam and maybe fab up a new pole and mount (lots of oilfield pipe cheap around here) for the Dahua.

Was just curious as to how high your metal pole will be. I would hate to see it act as a lightning rod and fry your whole system. Something to consider.

I was thinking under 20' for a pole. Using oilfield pipe for a mast I am limited by what I can haul on my trailer - 22ft dovetail outfit. So if I am starting with 22 or 24ft pipe and I bury 5ft in the ground I have 20' or less left.

In past life I secured a commercial perimeter with 18' masts and never had occasion to want more.

As for lightning I have been wondering the same thing. I live on a large hill (my property rises over 50' in 440' of depth) - so any mast I erect at front of my land would be well below the ridge-line.
However, Oklahoma soils tend to have high iron content (what makes the earth red and makes my pecan trees thrive) so you never know what sort of ground attraction you might create linking that iron in the soil.

In general I think I'm going to let pixel density and physical security drive my mast height and let lightning surprise me if it wants to.

Dang right. And I'm one of them. I switched to the Manufacturer in China when I replaced all my cameras with 960p. Okay, I know.... no comments please. But. wow... what a difference.
