Ok made my first newb mistake and got a Foscam. I am trying to get to the web server on the camera to load up on the laptop. The finder program loads the camera info and what IP and port that has been loaded. When I type this in to my browser I get a log-in GUI. But over the top it says that a plug-in is not loaded. So, I click on this and a zip file is downloaded. I run the zip file and it says it is installing an application. I have gone so far as to reboot the laptop and try again to browse to the web server on the camera. Keep getting that the plug-in is not loaded.

What could I possibly be doing wrong?

Right now tossing these two cameras is not an option. SO I am going to have to work with them Unless I can prove that they are defective. Then I can do the paypal and ebay return policy route.

Thanks
Paul

Ebay doesnt make you prove its defective....
Search "NPAPI" on this forum for the solution...
tell ebay is defective...the seller knows he sold you crap cameras...dont get suckered into keeping them...

you did not mention which browser you are using.
I hope it is IE. If yes, maybe you can stop your computer's anti virus software and install plug-in again to see if it works.

Hi Andy781, Well my work around was to use an older HP laptop that we still had around after an upgrade. I turned off all of the upgrade options, thus preventing it from getting the latest version of IE or Firefox. Loaded the software and then typed in the IP address. The web server loaded and away I went setting up the camera. I had also purchased a Fi9900 bullet. It had trouble when first powering up. The relay that powers the IR LED kept chattering at a rate of about 1.5 Hz. Its going back tomorrow. I see that many here swear by the Dahua camera. So, I will be looking at getting one of those for now. Looks like I will also have to pick up a POE enabled switch also. I hope to not make to many mistakes like this

I have the same problem but do not have access to an old computer. I cannot login to either of my Foscam f19900P s . They just keep asking for passwords and asking to install software. I keep going round and round in circles.

I have tried Chrome, edge, firefox and IE with no joy

I searched these forums for NPAPI and the only forum entry mentioning it is this one.

I don't want to reset my cameras to factory settings, I just want to look at resolution settings and possibly change them.

Foscam produce their own wanabeblueiris viewer software and I have also tried to access the camers that way. It lists the cameras by ip address but again I cannot log in to them.

Also foscam produce an ip viewer tool , this does not work at all under any circumstances, I have 10 cameras and it detects no of them. Fortunately I can get the ip addresses from my router.

Just tried Opera browser and thats not made any difference either.

Oh and another annoying thing the Foscam IP Camera client thing disappears when I minimise it so I have to go into menus and restart it each time... not that ist helping because it still wont allow me to log into the cameras.

you need to go to the main forum page and search NPAPI...not from this thread...it will yield 167 results...

Main problem is now solved and I have the Foscam program running with access to the camera.

For the benefit of those following me with the same probem here is what I did:

I googled NPAPI which is some sort of plug in support . Unfortunately few browsers now support it but wiki gives a list of those that do:

Pale Moon
Konqueror
Midori
Safari
SeaMonkey
GNOME Web
Uzbl

NPAPI - Wikipedia

Non of them are common but as it happens I already use one of them, seamonkey. Having opened Seamonkey I had to fight with the preferences to get java running in it as well but once enabled I have access to the camera.

I'm now back to my original problem of wrong video settings which if I cannot fix I will make a separate posting about.

Bigg1es thanks for letting the rest of us know about these other browsers that work with the NPAPI plug in.
