I am building a new home in Colorado and have had Cat6 preinstalled into the soffit corners around the home. I am planning on 10-12 cameras around the house for coverage and plan to use 4MP POE bullet cameras. I will also include some PTZ IP desk cameras in parts of the house.

My problem is I run around in circles trying to pick a camera system to use and need some input to help me decide. I have a QNAP NAS with Surveillance Station, but would need to buy more licenses to add cameras and find the QVR Mac app to be buggy. My current home has a mix of foscam ptz and Amcrest 841 cameras inside.

My goal for the new home is a higher quality image with reliability. I am not sure if I should put more money into QNAP camera licenses or buy an NVR. I would like to stay around $2500-$3500. If I get an NVR I do want available channels, say 24/36 for other cameras. I want to access the cameras remotely over my VPN and will not forward ports. My NVR/NAS will reside in the basement so ipad/browser access is needed. I don't know if I will need WDR for these

I don't anticipate needing tech support unless there is a hardware issue.

I am considering the following cameras/systems. I would appreciate any additional recommendations one may have to offer.

Amcrest
4MP 1025e. (I believe it is rebranded Dahua) priced around $115
5MP 1026e (not sure who makes it) priced around $125
Not sure I trust them. They offered me a 20% foscam loyalty discount then reneged and reduced by almost half. I can save a lot of money if I use these.

Backstreet Surveillance
U120BW at $171 with 5 yr warranty.
Uncertain if this camera will work with my QNAP.
Backstreet NVR does not have a POE Switch built in

BHPhoto/HikVision
DS-2CD2042WD-I-4MM $243

Security Camera Warehouse
Wasp Pro 4.0 43240 - 4MP (Rebranded Hikvision?)

Thanks,

jerold

Welcome Jerold,

Before making a final pick, take a look at the Dahua Starlight models and compare your options to them - check out the links below for more info

It's easy to get swamped with information here, so I wanted to share some notes with you

Please check out @giomania 's notes:
Dahua Starlight Varifocal Turret (IPC-HDW5231R-Z)

I have also made which are a summary of a lot of the reading I've been doing here,:
Looking for some advice and direction!

Hi Jerold,

I really dislike the Amcrest Hexagonal cross sections of their new bullet cameras - makes it very difficult to mount them without them appearing to be mounted by some random drunk worker you hired from home depot parking lot late at night.

Do take some time here to dig around a bit to find better options, and feel free to ask how others like the products they've picked up.

I decided to go with NSC 208 BT cameras, and a NSN 7324k NVR from Nelly’s Security. Adding in a couple of 8TB WD purple drives from amazon.

Nelly’s is only a state away from me and they seem like a good business.

I have heard of good reviews for Nelly's.
