blue iris suddenly a memory hog and at 100% cpu usage

Frustratingly i have just spent a good 4-5 hours over a number of visits trying to figure out what the issue was on a clients blue iris server. I have a number of clients running them.

I didn't link it to the update until now due to it suddenly running very bad once a raid disk was replaced... the server has run unattended and fault free since last June but a disk failed. Upon replacing it I did a once over while rebuilding and as part of this upgraded blue iris without thinking.

The server fell over that evening, i went in and got it running on two occasions after this happened and kept thinking it must be the crappy b120 raid controller and slow rebuild, high card usage...

I managed to bare with it and get it running every so often, but I'm talking 90 minutes to boot and get into blue iris, and even then majority of cameras would run at 0.5fps instead of 12... CPU usage and memory usage through the roof but not directly linked to blue iris as System etc was using huge amounts also.

I have just now found that for some crazy reason, the update appears to have set all of the cameras at 60fps!!! completely killing everything... manually set them all back to 12 and I'm back to normal... i don't know if anyone else has had this but its definitely something to check!

Blue iris cannot change the cameras frame rates...that is set in the camera itself...you should disable auto update...

They are all disabled, i updated this as it hadn't been touched in 14 months...

The frame rate setting in blue iris had changed to 60fps, not in the cameras, the cameras still only went to the maximum 12fps if they could (most ran at 0.5) but changing this setting in blue iris back to 12FPS resolved all of the issues with the system.

I've been seeing the same on my server lately.

Something is making Blue Iris Video configuration to change.

All of my cameras are set to 20fps on their own web interfaces. That does not change.
At the same time, I have always set Blue Iris Video "Max Rate" for each camera accordingly.
But recently, every time I notice a CPU spike, if I review my cameras configuration on Blue Iris, I end up finding one or more cameras with different "Max. Rate" (higher then what I had set up previously) fps values. It's annoying. Manually setting configs back to 20fps Max Rate makes CPU spike disappear, until it happens again, and again...
I suppose it's related to the Blue Iris Web Server, because I disabled it for 24 hours and the problems did not happen while it was disabled. Once I enabled it back, problem resurfaced.

I have 8 Vivotek IP8151P and 2 Dahua SD52C225. The Vivoteks are set to stream h.264 at 1280x1024 20fps. The Dahuas h.264 at 720p 20fps. Nothing was changed on the cameras side. I first noticed this problem some 7-14 days ago (the fans would go high on my otherwise silent machine). I had no trouble before with same config. Blue Iris machine is a Intel Core i7-7700@3.60Ghz, 16 GB RAM.

And it just happened again. It's not the same camera I posted a screen shot on a previous post, but I guarantee that I left it at 20fps before.

CPU utilisation before I re-set camera to 20fps and after. Notice it's not at 100%, because only one camera had it's Max. Rate config "auto-raised", in Blue Iris. When all of them change, I get 100%

The reason I asked is I run a variety of Dahua cams and am not seeing this problem. Some cameras you cannot set the frame rate. Not that this is the case with yours, but I DO NOT use the "limit decoding unless required" feature....maybe try unchecking that.

I have the same issue on another of my Blue Iris machines. I would set the frame rate to 15 and then after a while the max. rate would be set to 30FPS.

I just checked my camera settings in BI after the update and can confirm it DID change the max rate fps on two of my cams. One to 41fps and one to 39fps.
I had a couple of cameras suddenly jump in frame rate the other day, too. I think it was also 41fps and 39fps. Just on two of the 40 something cameras we have over here. I didn't take note of which cameras, I just set them back to 10fps and didn't think twice about it. It hasn't happened again.

Blue iris does not adjust camera frame rates...the rate displayed in blue iris auto adjusts to what the camera is sending and sometimes a bit higher..you must adjust the camera frame rate in the camera.

Thanks, Fenderman. Will verify all cameras web interface (again).

Not sure if my problem was exactly the same as everyone elses, but I had very similar symptoms over the last week. I am unsure as to whether it was a BI update or Windows update which caused the issues. An update of my Intel Graphics 530 to driver version 23.20.16.4849 seems to have fixed the issue as CPU usage is sub 20%, whereas it was spiking over 90% prior to the update.

Not sure, but I can say that the update 100% fixed my issue. It’s been <%20 for several hours now with no spikes.

Okay rolling back to the new driver again, maybe it was a combination of driver and bi version. Let me check if my cpu will ruse over time again, i will report back

Man, I don’t know. That’s the only thing I changed and it fixed my issue. Wish I had some other advice
