I am really enjoying my first ptz cameras but I am surprised at how loud they are. I don't mean when they are moving, that I expected. I'm surprised at how loud they are when they are just standing still. Every time I walk out of my front or back door or around my garage I'm kinda shocked. After putting up the first one I thought maybe something was wrong with it but all four I have sound the same. They emit a buzzing or humming sound. I think they must have some kind of a fan or something. Do all ptz cameras make noise when idle or is this something I should be concerned about?

I worked with some PTZs in the past, not Dahua though. Never noticed any noise, except when you pan, tilt or zoom of course.

Assuming (for now) that this is not normal behaviour, I would think that it's something with the power supply (50 or 60 Hz ripple) that causes the electronics or motors in the cams to produce this sound.
Does the power supply come from an NVR or do you use POE switch or an injector?

It would be good if you can share what PTZ camera model you are using, they're not all the same.

My cameras are SD6AL245U-HNI and they are powered by PoE+ injectors. I did power them with the provided power supply prior to mounting them outside and they made the same sound.

I have the SD59225U-HNI and we'll you can hear it moving even from about 20 feet away. It's not loud but you can hear the stepper motor doing its thing. When I walk to my door and the autotracking kicks in it sounds like the scene where neo takes the red pill and unplugs from the matrix. Lol it grabs the attention of every single person who comes to my front door.

Here's a short vid of mine. The microphone is about 8-10 inches from the camera.

Dahua PTZ's do have a fan and some have small heaters. They are located under the fan.
When idle they should be pretty quiet. The newer PTZ's are very loud when moving.

The vid is from the SD10A248v mounted ~20' up.
