I have finally persuaded by brother-in-law to pay the extra and go with IP cameras rather than Tvi. He took some persuaded due to the higher cost and now i am trying to persuaded him to go 4K rather than 1080p.

Hikvision Europe

The 4K camera is 40% more expensive. What argument can i present to him to persuade him 4K is the way to go?

why do you assume 4k is better than 1080p...in low light they are certainly inferior.

Well for now I certainly wouldn’t sell Hikvision ‘easy IP3.0’ camera’s on the analytics, face detection is a mess and each camera only supports 1 smart event detection for line crossing and intrusion, the image quality while great on a still scene is prone to more motion blur then a Hik TVI. The Hik TVI DVR’s also support 4 intrusion AND line crossing event detection for any camera/brand connected to them and will also allow IP camera’s to connect if you want real smart features on a IP PTZ or 4-line camera, you can build a good system that punches well above its price point that way.

I’m not bothered about line crossing etc only quality of the image.

CCTV so confusing.

I just don’t know if I can justify the 100% price difference between ip and tvi.

Requirements are 12fps, 1080p resolution. No other feature is required.

Tvi cost £215
IP cost £420

are you going to clean the spiders of that tvi eyeball or is he going to do that?

Your not really going to see spiders building more webs on the TVI eyeball camera then on the IP turret, real life they will spin a web a few inches infront of either between the soffit and the wall - rain/sun visor on a bullet on the otherhand you'll have all sorts living in there.

There's some nice TVI dome cameras built on the same chassis as IP version as well so the choise isn't just turret or eyeball - just make sure you get the correct lens and ask Dynamic what they can get from Amsterdam/Holland - you'll get more choice as long as you know what you want (i.e. lens), check out the specs on the D8T line, thats what i'd be looking at for good 1080p nightvision - 5MP is also readily availble and 4K starting to come through Hikvision UK & Ireland

Check out the HTHI-K recorders Hikvision UK & Ireland - that one is a 6 channel - 4 analogue (upto 4K@12fps) and 2 IP (upto 4K), H265 encoding, etc. coax (i.e. RG59 or RG6) will give you the best picture and least amount of interference but if you want to hedge your bets a roll of cat5e is cheap, run that out to the same location for redundency - keeps everyone happy.

No prices for that recorder yet (just been released) but also worth checking the Power over Coax (PoC) recorders for an easy less wires install.

Seriously and honestly I have just installed 4 dahua starlight turrets
For my brother last week
Those cameras without even fiddling with the settings crap all over
My hikvision gear I have from 2mp-8mp cameras
I took the advice on what everyone was saying about starlight cameras
My brother is a very happy person
And I’m like gutted I never started out with dahua
But will always recommend that brand they are simply amazing
Zero noise at night unlike a Hikvision where there is a compromise and you have to adjust settings and still get some noise in the picture

Looks a great camera. No idea of the cost as I use a mate of a mate to get prices.

There are sooo many cameras to choose from.

I won’t be using Dahua as I only know Hikvision. I really don’t want to learn another manufacturers equipment.

I like the quality of Dahua cameras I just find playback via their recorder a complete pain - you need laser accuracy with the mouse otherwise it does nothing.

I was on the same thinking as you
I knew hikvision like the back of my hand but in reality there set up is similar
There laptop pss nvr is a lot easier to set up and it didn’t take long to navigate all the functions like hikvision
I’ve learnt blue iris on my little i5.
Hikvision all aspects of its pain.
And dahua I am sure it has it’s painful points too but that’s the fun of this hobby learning how too.
The new one for me was setting up the ubiquity gear a 24 port Poe switch
There, gate way ,and cloud key.
There control GUI is amazing took me a few hrs but wow I’ve never seen so much user control over a system.

Sounds like it, fitted a Dahua system a couple of years back and really hated the playback controls. Had other Dahua customers tell me the same about playback at the recorder so I'm not the only one, Hik is more intuitive which helps me as I do a lot of onsite support for customers after incidents.

Please give reason and evidence for your case of IP over Tvi.
