Alright, now I'm pissed. I was perfectly happy with cheap, semi-crappy cameras off of Amazon. Then I found this forum. Then I found the Dahua threads. Then I found the 5231 thread. Then I ordered and installed one, great service from Andy. Now I'm going to be spending some money to upgrade all my cameras to 5231s, and add a few more in the process. This is costing me money!

The one I have looks at our back door and catches the driveway gate. When we turn on the floodlight, a single 50 watt LED, it switches back to color, daytime, mode. In night mode it "sees" all the way to the street, say 150 feet away, but I do have an 11 watt IR illuminator pointed to "wash" the driveway. Add in the great resolution and zoom, that actually works well, and these things are really great for the money. What's aggravating is I have to wait until the middle of January before I order more. Ratza kravitz fammus.
the 4231 is a pretty good fixed focus option that's a little less.

Yeah, I saw that too. I'm kind of sold on the varifocus. Solves all the field of view problems with the click of a mouse.

I have the same gray image on one of my laptops, on the other works great. I have switched to the IE browser and it works, but it asks almost every times, to install the plugin.
I'm on the latest firmware, and I don't have any fps reset issues. I have set them to 20fps, and it stays there.
Today, I have finally started installing, some of my cameras permanently. Need to insulate and drywall my garage, so installing the cameras, has to be installed before I can do that.

I believe the issue was that the fps would increase in blue iris but the acutal camera web interface would still show the selected value. It's been a while though. Not sure if your using blue iris or not but just trying to clarify just in case the issue should come up.

I'll try both and report back.
Ok...cleared IE cache and re-installed the plug=in and it's working finally. Problem now is I think the SD card is bad. I've seemed to have a problem with the recording since I got the SD card. Now it won't format, finally shows up then go away and says SD card not installed. I ordered a new SD so hopefully that will fix it.

Buy sd cards only from reputable stores...even on amazon, it must be sold and shipped by amazon, otherwise they are likely fakes.

Yeah, weird thing is I used this one ScreenHunter 09.png direct from Amazon and thought it would be working fine. I got a Sandisk this time. We'll see how that one works. I have a Sandisk in the new 2nd camera I have and it's been recording flawlessly.

Even if it's sold and shipped by Amazon, you can still end up with fakes due to the way Amazon comingles inventory with 3rd parties. This can vary by product type (most media products are no eligible for comingling) but cheaper items like power cords and chargers for phones are insane. And memory cards. I might pay a little more, but I buy all my memory cards from other retailers who either do not have 3rd party affiliate programs or who don't comingle inventory (newegg, best buy, Fry's). Some articles that describe the problem (specifically referring to good sold directly by Amazon).

This is an old story and hes been discussed many times on this site...the second story is amazon suing the sellers...however amazon has changed its policy with respect to stocking the cards as you noted. If the price is the same and you dont need it fast, best buy is a good choice, but they often are 20-30 percent more expensive....
B and H is also a good source and good pricing and quick shipping...this same card is 39.99 at best buy vs 31.90 at bh...

Need help with recording audio through Blue Iris. I have one 5231R-Z and two 5231R-ZE that are being monitored using Blue Iris. I can hear audio from the cameras through Blue Iris when I am viewing the live stream. Though, when I go to view a trigged, recorded clip there is no audio. The volume is turned up. I am recording direct-to-disk. The camera's audio settings is set to G.1117A and 16000 sampling frequency (these were the defaults). Blue Iris' audio settings are enabled with IP Stream option. Has anyone got audio recording working and what settings are you using? Thank you.

it works with those settings....have you properly enabled audio in blue iris? post the audio tab settings for the camera as well as the video config page.

Ok, Samsung SD was definitely corrupt. when I put it in my home computer it freezes and I have to hard boot the computer. Tried with 2 work computers and they won't detect the card. Popped the new Sandisk in the camera and worked perfectly all day.
