What do you use for Blue Iris server remote access

I use Solar Winds (formerly Dameware) "Mini Remote Control" ("MRC").The good: it's fast, lightweight, low CPU overhead and provides an experience as if I am sitting at a display wired to the server, fully functional 14-day trial. The downside: costs $259.00 and s o l a r w i n d s s u c k s .

I use RDP over a VPN connection most of the time. Not the best as far as frame rate and what not but most of the time I log in I am either tweaking a setting or exporting a video. I also use real VNC as a backup. I think it works well but honestly I've motly jusy been using RDP. Both are free. I don't really see a need for a paid product.

Blue iris limits the frame rate of rdp, unless you set it to unlimited...

I use Chrome Remote desktop - Its free and I can use it on my tablet/phone remotely.

The UI is also extremely simple so I use it for my customers Blue Iris setups if I need to remote into their computer. All they need to do is generate an access code.


I tried teamviewer... it's okay, a little too complicated for my clients to use. I like simple and really like Google :)

How does Chrome stack up against TeamViewer?

I am hard-core TeamViewer, but a little paranoid about TV's business plan: I can't afford their commercial license, they do not seem to have a "Home Use" license, they have flagged me once already as a suspected commercial user.... and I would like to have a fallback plan.

Is the Chrome solution worth some time to explore?

Absolutely! It's simple and completely free. Team viewer has more options and features but they are all unnecessary for me. Chrome Remote has all the features I need.

Can Chrome Remote be set up so that the server is up and ready to accept connections after a power cycle without any intervention?

Rdp and teamviewer. Ignore the flag unless you use that account to manage a ton of computers. You will eventually get to the point of being kicked after 5 minutes. Setup a vpn of some sort, its free if you have hardware that can do this

I'm testing Proxmox right now and did a RD video test and i can play a H.264 4K [23.976fps][125Mbps][8bit] demo without problems.

The VM in Proxmox is Win 10 and the workstation is Win 8.1.
The 4K video I'm playing in 10 and viewing in the RDC on the workstation is also played back from a share on the workstation.

I have an issue with RDP ... live view does not "update".. the image is static ... unless I click on it ... I have to constantly click on it for it for update... any idea?

how is teamviewer? Do you constantly have to update the software?

I remember getting version mismatch when I had to work on some client's pc... I had to update

I haven't researched it extensively but just wanted some thoughts, if you have experience with it, on if you have concerns about TeamViewer getting hacked and your personal info stolen? I saw some comments about this and also THIS ARTICLE. I realize it's been a few years so maybe things have changed.

Contemplating TeamViewer vs MS RDP vs Chrome Remote Desktop. I assume that most will find one of those three to be sufficient and in addition use the BI UI3, and BI android app for tablets and mobile phones.

Every since they had a rash of TeamViewer "hacked" devices, I haven't used TeamViewer beyond a short-term help a family member out remotely scenario.

Even though that "hack" was more than likely a result of people reusing passwords, but I just don't trust many services which use a cloud connection.

Since then I have used RDP via VPN connection (not exposed), it isn't great from a performance standpoint, I can really tell when I'm on hotel wifi and VPN'd to the home network. Long time back used VNC, but unless they have changed something it doesn't support two-factor. I'd feel a lot more secure if there was two-factor support (like Solar Winds) but minus the cost hehe.

A few posts (and weeks) back, I suggested trying "Anydesk" [www.anydesk.com] .This is a small program that is easier and much more friendly than Teamviewer. I use this for several customers.
