Hmm...Camera switching from day to night mode (IR On/OFF) & camera loses ability to auto focus?

If so I hope they fix that in a firmware update
No. It tries to auto-focus when IR changes and may focus on something else and not necessarily where you want it. Most of us with that camera would like a disable auto-focus option. I wouldn't count on a firmware fix for that problem anytime soon if at all. And I wouldn't recommend updating the firmware, the shipped version while not perfect it has fewer problems than the current version. I made the mistake of upgrading to most current version as recommended and I had a hard time finding the shipped version so I could revert back to it.

The Z12 I received came with version IPC-HX5X3X-Rhea_Eng_P_Stream3_V2.460.0000.15.R.20170907, it seemed to work the best.

Orig:
System Version 2.460.0000.15.R, Build Date: 2017-09-07
WEB Version 3.2.1.492613
ONVIF Version 16.12(V2.3.1.458331)

Yes, all of our cams with 20170907 firmware, we always use the latest new one, earlier than dahua website shows.

How do we configure OpenALPR with this? Can this be used solely offline?

This camera looks like it works pretty good. I'm thinking about ordering one and mouting it on the house where people pulling into the driveway will bnot be shining headlights directly at the camera (well at least it won't be dead center). Sounds like I need to run that switching utility on the windows server I run blue iris. But other than that it should work fairly good?

Blue iris cannot help with the profile switching correct?

Ordered this cam from Andy but haven't set up yet. How are you guys solving the problems of parked cars along the side of the road? In my situation, it's pretty hard to capture license with those cars in the way.

You have a couple of options. in Suburbia set up your cam to shoot through a driveway, a no stopping zone, or other place where it is prohibited to park. Alternatively mount your cams up high and have them shooting video over the top of the vehicles that might park there. Obvious drawback there is that you might not capture plates which are mounted below the pan of trucks or tray of utes, but you can limit this issue by capturing as far as possible away from the camera. Additional IR might be required.

Everyones situation is different for me, I just don't park in the way myself and I am golden. :)

Try adjusting the angle and/or height of camera. Also use IPVM to get a rough idea for appropriate placement.

Thank you @crc2004 for this thread. Been testing out one of these Dahua IPC-HFW5231E-Z12 that I got from Andy as a LPR. I'm using your day and night settings and just using the auto focus. I force the camera to the night profile before it gets dark and switch it back to day mode in the morning to avoid the IR Switch focus issue described in this thread.

Here is a sample capture from tonight. The camera is installed directly above the first camera shown in this capture. Camera is at the maximum zoom setting at night. During daylight, I zoom out just slightly.

Nice clear license plate capture setup! What do you think the distance is from the Z12 to the plate? How is the lighting situation? Any external IR? How much environmental light is there?
