Eeeehghgh. IE is the problem then. Pale moon 32 bit shouldn't have the problem. Maybe the NVR can be used to configure the cameras all from one interface? (it'll probably still work best with Pale Moon though!)

Testing H.265 and noticed a slight choppy effect vs H.264.

Setup is H.265
VBR
Max 6000 kbps
20 FPS

When I drop to H.264, the video is smooth.

I can play around with the settings and get it "some what" smooth but not as smooth as H.264.

Any one experience this?

Following up. All equipment has arrived and the install has begun. Aside from everything going well, I do I have one question.

A handful of cameras came in (5 or 6) that were visually the same but were not H.265 equipped. They were H.264h capable but not H.265.

I plan on sending these back for the correct model but wanted to know from anyone with experience, what are the differences between H.265 and H.264h? When looking at the kbps of each codec (everything else being the same), there seemed to be little to no difference.

Thanks,

Are they all the ---exact--- same model #'s
Do the one's without h265 available have older firmware than the ones that do?

H265, use's less storage space than 264.

Conceived to boost video streaming, High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC), or H.265, is a video compression standard designed to substantially improve coding efficiency when compared to its precedent, the Advanced Video Coding (AVC), orH.264.Jun 8, 2016

Another update for those interested..:)

The supplier surprised me by replacing ALL (40) of my 4mp H.264 cameras with brand new 6mp H.265 units at no added cost, pretty cool. It delayed starting the install by a week, but worth it.

I have about 22 of them installed and they look really good. I still have the same issue/question however and may have an answer, but I would like a second opinion.

I commented a few posts back that viewing the video stream in H.265 results in very minor video skips. These skips happen roughly every 5 - 10 seconds and are very similar to video buffering over a slow network.

My first thought was just that.....that the network is bottle necking or something and causing buffering. However, when I switch over to H.264, the video smooths out nicely which means it cant be the network as H.264 uses twice the bandwidth as H.265. The Kbps using H.265 @ 6mp and 25 fps was averaging about 3150 where H.264 was close to 7000. If I use H.265+, it drops below 2000! The issue remains though in H.265+ as well.

My second though was that the weak CPU in my Dell Optiplex that I use to setup and view the camera GUI's is not sufficient to decode the H.265 codec. I do not have another (beefier) PC to test that theory at the moment though.

Any thoughts?

EDIT****
Just in case someone was wondering for the cameras alone, we are using:
- (2) Dell N2048P's tethered by 200' of OM3 MM fiber via 10gb SFP+ uplinks
- All drops are 24awg cat6

Okay folks, need some help here.

I run Blue Iris on my home setup so I am unfamiliar with using an NVR and am finding it to be a bit more involved than expected. Hoping most of my issues are user error.

The NVR is a Dahua NVR608-64-4KS2
Using NIC #1 of the NVR Only
All Cameras are set to H.265+ / 2560 x 1440 / 15fps / VBR ------averaging roughly 900kbps per camera or about 25Mbps total
Everything described below is from the NVR itself, not from a remote console

Here is what I have:
I have added 27 cameras to the NVR so far using the NVR wizard.
On the main screen with channels 1 -32 showing (small frames) everything looks fine and video seems pretty smooth. If I click on one of the channels to watch it full screen, the video slows dramatically and hardly plays......sometimes it doesn't. The more channels I add to the main screen (or the smaller the video window gets) the better the video looks.
Recorded files are horrible, averaging about 1 frame of video every 30sec.

Watching full screen video directly from the camera GUI looks mostly fine with very minor choppy issues.

Could use some help/advice here please.

Thanks,

I think I have answered one of my questions. It seems this NVR is not a fan of H.265+ (smart Codec). Once I changed everything back to H.265 without the smart codec option, everything started to smooth out. The NVR also does not seem to like mixing streams. So if I have one or two at H.264 and some at H.265, the video becomes choppy.

Anyway, I am in the process now of going into every camera GUI and making sure all options are EXACTLY the same. I will report back with how it all works out but it seems to be going good now......fingers crossed :).

H265+ is not listed in the specs of this NVR. The use of smart codec, may or may not work properly, and can disable other features of the cams when inabled.

Thank you. What is the best way to remote view (not on same LAN) this DVR via mobile devices? Any recommendations?

Thank you @looney2ns .

I have about 40 cameras installed now, they are all the interior 6mp H.265 Domes. I have the NVR608-64 installed and running. I have the gDMSS app installed and running.

So far everything is looking really nice. I have only been messing with the gDMSS app for a day or so but I have to say, "WOW." This app is extremely robust. I can create groups, favorites and the playback via the app is impressive, very impressive.

Next (last) step is exterior cameras, (20) of them. They are the 4mp bullet cameras and will take a little more time to install due to location and height.

Just an updae and a thanks to everyone helping or just following the progress!

Jimmie
