From my point of view 100 Mbps is more than enough for a standard value streaming around 4Mbps per cam: 8 x 4096 kbps = 32 Mbps, so that's fine, even if you use the second Stream available from the cam for webcasting or other use.
Most of the cams have 10/100 Mbps ethernet interface as standard.

Oups.... Duplicate post ....

From my point of view 100 Mbps is more than enough for a standard value streaming around 4Mbps per cam: 4 x 4096 kbps = 16 Mbps, so that's fine, even if you use the second Stream available from the cam for webcasting or other use.
You can even use 8 POE ports device , that's also fine for 8 cams.

Most of the cams have 10/100 Mbps ethernet interface as standard.

I would not trust a seller with 89 percent positive feedback...with ali express, as with everything else in life...if it looks too good to be true, it is..

You are probably right but I looked at the negative feedback and it's mostly non-english firmare stuff. I don't care if it's Chinese or english.

Sellers on AliExpress are known to sometimes cancel orders that had too good to be true prices. Not saying this is the case but something to keep in mind.

True, but I am not going to update the firmware. I am happy with it as it is. If a major security issue is discovered that I can't overcome through using a VPN etc., I may think about it.

I understand your pain, I usually do a lot of research on the forums before buying anything. So I realised that since a year or so, the 'Chinese' versions of the cameras have this 'feature' built-in where they revert to the Chinese language when you upgrade the firmware.

Finally, the zyxel is a poe+ switch that can power a ptz camera that needs more than regular poe...

I understand that this has already been answered by Fenderman quite clearly but I just like to echo his points: I'm quite happy that I went with the Zyxel managed switches mainly because of the nature of work I'm in that I deal with gigabits of company/patient related sensitive data at home that I didn't realize that my home network needed to be looked at by our IT department and certified to be reasonably safe when I started to delve with ip cameras and related port forwarding rules. When I showed them my planned ip cam network and the related switches they immediately approved my plan after a couple of modifications/ software additions. The airgapping capabilities and the vlan features of these managed switches I think clinched the deal and more than made up for the additional costs. The ip cam network can be connected/ easily isolated from network in general, from the interweb and can even power cycle the cams without touching any physical wire or switch. And these can be done even remotely. As for the 10/100 and gigabit bit connection speed: well, I finally realized that adding 6 ip cameras running at full resolution will definitely choke my old 10/100 switch. Besides, using these Zyxel's gave me a bit of future proofing.

Again, my only regret is I should have bought one or two more when they were still 100 bucks a piece over at Colamco since my company is really limiting me to one wireless AP for the whole house and I have to convert some of my work stations and smart tv's to wired.

@Sakuji Great points-....The only downside of the managed switch is that it can introduce lots of issues for the non techies...so its only recommended for folks who either know what they are doing or dont mind learning...

Yup, fact is I wasn't immune to that also. It took me a couple of weeks reading this forum and other related websites, couple of consult to a local friend here who knows ip cams, and a set of back and forth with our IT department added on top of a short afternoon when they had to visit my home and physically inspect my network and software. Thing is there were times that I almost chucked this whole project to the back burner because of unforeseen headaches. That's why I'm truly thankful to you guys specially those who are level headed when making comments/ suggestions. :encouragement:

@scotd9000 or anybody else: did you order from this seller? How was it so far? I also don't mind chinese firmware and willing to wait out the chinese new year holidays as long as the cams are eventually shipped. I'm looking to get 2 more cubes.
