I am looking for something specific that I am not sure exist...

I am wanting to install an ip camera close to an eve, very high up on a building. To ensure that the night vision doesn't catch the eve at night, I would like to see if there is a viewer that I could connect to before I mount it.

Directly: I would like to hold the ip cam on the wall where I want to mount, connected to a small portable screen via ethernet cable so I can see if the eves are in the video. All this before I drill a hole and run the wire.

Is there such a device? Any help is great, THANKS!

I'm in the testing phase myself. I have a 100' Ethernet cable than runs from the camera back to the switch inside the house. I use TinyCam Pro on my phone to see the camera's output. I find it easier to use my phone than a laptop while standing on a ladder fiddling with a camera.

Connect network cable directly to a Laptop.

won't work unless your Laptop has POE, but with a POE midspan connected, and a crossover cable, it would work fine. Some cameras require a crossover cable, while others do not.

no cameras require crossover cables...its 2018 all crossover cables should be in the garbage....every laptop or pc you use today will have auto mdi-x...

You say that...but I still have to use one at work....needless to say, it isn't 2018 at work, more like 2007!

We are still using PLC5 and Bailey DCS for some of our most critical systems...tell me that isn't ludicrous.

I have a new laptop and different cams now, so hopefully no more crossover cables for me too.
