I've been researching alarms and I'm interested in the honeywell lyric. I'm not interested in paying a monthly fee.

Can I self monitor the lyric through my vpn with the honeywell my home controller app?

Is there any way to self monitor the lyric without paying monthly?

No, you cannot self monitor the Lyric without a monthly fee. If you want to self monitor without paying a monthly fee you need to buy the Honeywell Vista 20p instead of the Lyric. The Vista 20p can be self monitored with an Envisalink 4 without paying a monthly fee.

The vista has been my second choice for that reason. I was hoping for some kind of similar solution with the lyric.

Do you have any opinions of one system over the other? Any other system suggestions?

Interesting topic. We have a Vista, which uses copper telephone and "contact ID" for communications. Soon that form of physical phone line will be unavailable.

I've been looking for a 3G "direct to mobile" monitoring solution which does not rely on a subscription. It appears that everything runs through someone's server and therefore has a cost.

The Envisalink concerns me as it is reliant on the internet being available. I thought about using a 3G modem... but can't get figures on how much data to expect it to consume.

A Trikdis G16T with the Protegus app is the "least worst" 3G option I've found. I believe that the subscription is about AU$15-20 per month to run.

Yeah, I prefer the Vista series. I'm not a fan of AIO (All-In-One) systems for multiple reasons, some of the reasons are; they aren't as secure (main control panel and keypad are one unit and the unit is usually mounted next to your front door), don't accept hardwired zones, and your expansion is limited when compared to a hardwired system.

The Vista series can do everything a wireless AIO system can do and more. The only exception at this time is the Vista series is not compatible with the Lyric SiX encrypted senors. However, I've heard the SiX series sensors may be compatible with the Vista series sometime in the future. The Vista is only compatible with Honeywell 5800 series wireless sensors and the Lyric is compatible with the Honeywell 5800 series and SiX series wireless sensors.

The only time I would recommend a AIO wireless system to someone is if they're living in an apartment.

I'm guessing you're located in Australia? Is this system being professionally monitored? In the US it doesn't cost much to add cellular monitoring to your plan. There are plenty of companies that offer packages that include cell monitoring with interactive features for $25.00 a month or less.

Yes, Western Australia.

No, the system is currently unmonitored due to dissatisfaction with the provider. I appreciate that wouldn't apply across the board.

I would jump at US$25 per month total for monitored with 3G add-on. As all the providers use their own gateways (?), they seem to get away with charging a lot for the 3G functionality. They also appear to want to charge for the equipment and set-up... I've not seen a company offering product in exchange for contract. A lot of businesses are apathetic and just pay the lowest rate of three quotes obtained.

The cheapest option I could find was through alarmgrid @ $10/month. Although I didnt want a monthly fee, this isn't bad as it allows me to monitor/control my system from anywhere. Now that the Lyric is compatible with homelink, perhaps you can see if you can utilize IFTTT to trigger notifications.
