It isn't hard to understand the appeal of these things, really. A lot of people hate wires and are willing to give up a lot in order to live without them. Even better if clever marketing tactics are able to hide the downsides.

Here is IPVM's estimation of 1080p @ 140° horizontal field of view, as specified in the Kickstarter.

10 foot distance:

20 foot:

And lets not forget this is battery powered so the IR is probably a lot weaker than average.

Yes, it is actually really a very short ID distance based on 100 ppf and 140 H FOV ( note, they maybe playing games like some others and this may actually be the D FOV )

Comparisons of similar res and H FOV cameras:

Ring Spotlight Cam wired / battery / solar 1080p at 140 degrees: 7.86 feet { 75.44 sq feet covered }
Ring Floodlight Cam 1080p at 140 degrees: 7.86 feet { 75.44 sq feet covered }
Eufy EverCam 1080p at 140°: 7.86 feet { 75.44 sq feet covered }

Yes, that's less than 8 feet!

Surprising how many people just want a super wide FOV.. and ease of install

It's the same with Dashcams Matt. Everyone wants 140-180 degrees and thinks the wider the better when in reality the wider, the less you can retrieve for any given resolution. Give me a 90 degree view any day!

What I want is a camera that works like your eye: wide-angle peripheral vision, but also automatically detects and centers high resolution imagery on the key part of the frame at any given time. Of course, that is only as good as your algorithm is. We can't do this reliably just yet, but AI is getting steadily better.
