Cisco POE switch setup help?

more of a networking question, but i thought i'd ask here since it is for my camera system.

yesterday I found a couple of switches at the goodwill outlet ($1/lb place). One is a Cisco SG500-28P.

I grabbed it thinking it might be a nice way to consolidate my multiple POE switches for my 9 camera blue iris setup.

it powers up fine, all LEDs look normal. I did a factory reset via the reset button.

...says the default console address is 192.168.1.254 (cisco/cisco). but I am having trouble accessing the console page.

My main network on my Ubiquiti network is 192.168.1.1/24. this should assign addresses TO INCLUDE 192.168.1.254, right? in my unifi console, it shows the cisco but does not assign an IP. the IP field is blank.

What I need to do is access the cisco console to be able to manually change the IP of the managed switch to something within my camera network range (192.168.2.xxx). should I be attempting to do this using my existing unifi DHCP network? or a disconnected windows machine directly plugged into the cisco?

any suggestions or help is appreciated.

are you trying https;//192.168.1.1 or telnet 192.168.1.254 or are you using a console lead in to the console port? did you connect the router to a network with a DHCP server running?

cisco plugged into my unifi DHCP network. http from a laptop on the same network.

sorry, i'm a networking novice and i've never used a managed switch other than my unifi poe switch.

From the PC, see if a ping to this address gives a response.
If not, it may be that the reset does not set the IP address to defaults, or maybe you didn't press it long enough to not just restart but reset to defaults.

Presumably because the switch isn't using DHCP, which would be issued by the Unifi, it's probably set to a fixed IP address.

If you don't want to try any discovery tools, maybe nmap or wireshark for example, fing on the phone, you might have to resort to connecting to the console port.
Without checking the specs for that model - these are usually RS232, 9600/N/8/1 (not serial TTL).

thanks for the tips. fing showed a switch at 1.142. in a browser that shows the cisco login page!! seems good so far.
