Hello guys great forum, still learning here as my head is still swimming a little while seeking more info but so far took the plunge and ordered through Andy the Dahua nvr54xx-4ks2 nvr without poe with a sda1a203t-gn 2mp ptz poe starlight and a sd52c225u-hni 2mp starlight ptz poe camera. So now I just wanted to double check concerning these poe + switches. Interested in one that can hang out in the attic or garage, but my question is that the c225u cam which is 24v 1.5a ac and the 203t-gn is 12v 1.5a dc can they both be powered by the same poe + switch that will power their ptz functions without damaging anything? Don’t want to tear up anything when ready to configure and setup this puppy. Any help greatly appreciated.

If you purchase a POE+ switch that is rated 802.at, yes the same switch can power both cams.

We have installed recorders in nema boxes outside in the sun. Usually the box will have fans in the bottom to keep air flowing. They can last a couple of years if its done right. We just replaced a processor fan in a CVI recorder that was installed in an office above the drop ceiling, where it was hot most of the day. I think that recorder was about a year and a half old. For a home install, where you have a choice, mount your equipment in the A/C. if its in the garage, buy a little fan to blow on it.

So, what’s considered a decent Poe + switch in these days and times and should it be a gigabit or non-gigabit switch with or without uplink ports and be managed or not? I have been looking and so far, have seen products such as Amcrest, BV tech, Laview, Trohestar, and of course Cisco, Tplink, Netgear, and others. Also, which has been mentioned before has been building for expansion I'm shooting for a system that can be added on to later such as this 16-port system so, should I consider a 16 port Poe+ switch or something with fewer ports until I can start adding additional cameras later? Thanks again guys and have a safe and happy 4th.

I would look for a 16+ port PoE+ NVR / switch.
If you find a deal on a 8 port PoE+ switch - go for it, just remember when setting it up to plan to expand in the future.
The greatest amount of work for me was the cabling, and this is probably the case for most people. So over cable.. N+1+

They are low end no name switches.
Well shoot I must've missed that when doing my research...
A few people on a fee threads said they were ok, but some reviews tend to say they lose ports, which I don't want. I don't want the Down time between units to save 100 in the long run...
Any other specific brand, or model you would recommend in a 16 channel?

There is a thread dedicated to poe switches...personally I like to use two smaller switches that are fanless. Do you actually intend to use 16 cameras for your home?
I don't, but know I will need more than 8, at some point.

Couple of posts on here just recently about BV-Tech switches dying an early death.

@mat200, Yeah it's still a toss-up on the switch hopefully I can find a good deal on an 8 or 16port + gigabit one with good protection for the rest of the equipment, thanks for the tip, also will definitely ensure a good cable install.
