Hello all.
I have been using BlueIris for about 2 years now and all going well. 4 POE Cameras recording continuously and split into 10 minute segments, Also with Motion Alert emails enabled.
Problem is i am only able to store about 5 days worth of footage with my current HDD size.
Am I able to set BlueIris to record as it does now, plus the motion recordings, but move anything older than 3 or 5 days to a 3TB USB drive that is permanently plugged in?
Ideal solution would be 5 days of 4 cameras 24/7 - plus motion recordings on the internal HDD. Anything older onto USB HDD. This way if for some reason the USB drive disconnects or anything like that i still have the last few days available.
Thanks for reading.

Have not tested it myself but If the USB is seen as a drive in windows I don't see why It would not work. However, USB drive letter allocations are dynamic, you might have to consider that. Just test it and see how you go. The thing here would be more related to how critical are the recordings to you in case you need the footage the USB crashed. It is one more thing to be looking after. Also The external USB might be using a power brick and consume extra power 24/7. External mechanical drives are slow, it will take ages to copy, and in the middle of it might disconnect. Too much hassle IMO. Would always go for a wired local HDD for a set and forget reliable setup.

Thanks SirVenom. I agree with the downsides of the USB HDD. Its not so much for important security recording as i would keep as many days a possible on the local HDD - its more for my own interest as sometimes it would be handy if i could go back a few more days that what i have just to check something in the yard or anything like that.
I am using a small form factor PC as my BlueIris server and only have space for one 3.5inch HDD.

I'm in the same situation. I use an optiplex 9010 as my Blue iris DVR. Single 3.5 HDD and single 2.5" SSD. I went through the options since my 4TB is not enough already. I even explored copying to my NAS scheduling tasks to copy. However, could not find anything as reliable as selling my 4tb and getting a bigger one. To me there is no point having the cameras if the footage is not there when I need it. Let me know how do you go if you go down the HDD USB path. Would be an interesting test.

I do that and it works without any issues. I store 100 GB of "New" clips on my primary drive and the oldest clips are moved to "Stored" on a 4 TB USB 3.0 drive connected to the PC.

srglassw - What are the option you have entered into your Clips and Archiving section to make this happen?

Thanks for this. Going to put a size limit on my NEW folder - about 1.2TB. And then move to Store Folder (USB HDD) of about 3.5TB.
Just to confirm this will keep as many days a possible until it reaches the New limit Size and then move to store folder?
Also, can anyone tell me what actually gets stored in the Alerts folder? Does it store my separate clips of Motion Detection?
Thanks again

Yes, when the New folder size limit is reached then clip files will be moved to the Stored folder.
The Alerts folder is where high resolution alert images are stored if the "Store alerts as hi-res files" option is checked on the Camera / Record tab(s).
