Good morning!
I had read really good things about the 2mp starlight cameras, so i decided to order a IPC-HDW4231EM-ASE from Empire Tech-Andy through Amazon. I already have 8 various Dahua cameras connected through a 16 port POE switch to a 16 channel Dahua NVR . Like all my previous Dahua cameras, i first connect it to my network, open the ConfigTool to change the ip, gateway, and subnet settings, then use the search feature on the NVR to add the camera to my system.
It took a few tries for the new camera to show up on the NVR search, but it did finally connect. It then showed the camera working for approximately 6 seconds, then the picture froze up and the round status symbol in the search window went from green to red. It would then start working again for about 5 seconds, then stop for about a minute. I left it connected for about an hour. When i checked the recording for that camera on the NVR, it only shows a few seconds of recording time for every minute. I have tried deleting the camera from the system and adding it with a different ip, but it does not correct the problem. I have tried multiple network cables, and even connected it to a cable from one of my working cameras. The web view through Internet Explorer also only works intermittently.
I dont know if the camera is defective, or there is something in the configuration of this camera that i have overlooked that is causing this problem. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

I haven't tried a factory reset yet. I first had it connected on my computer desk and noticed the problem, so mounted it outside to a spot where i already had a camera working. I wanted to test it there to eliminate the possibility of a bad cable or power issue.

I will try a factory reset on the camera this afternoon when i get home from work. I understand that the camera has to be disassembled to find the reset button, as there is not a way to reset it from the config settings, correct?

Yes. I shot video clips on dis-assembly, microSD card insertion and factory reset, but never had time to edit and publish it.

Just had to do this for an (8x) - 4231EM-ASE camera install. 1 of them was acting this way, but after the reset, it's been up and running strong for 20+ days without issue.

A few things.

Careful with the watertight gasket. Reset it carefully in to the groove on the half of the camera housing without the camera board. Use the housing pins for alignment when re-attaching the two halves.

The reset button is under the main board. You will have to remove the two main board screws and flip the board to access it. It can be done without this once you know where it is, but I couldn't find it without removing and flipping the board.

I didn't succeed until I held the reset button for a long time (30 - 45 seconds) while powering up. I was using a POE switch and the POE light goes out. It didn't reset until the light went out twice. Solid since then.

I used a 12v adapter and watched for the led light inside the camera board, and it was 20-25 seconds, as I recall.

If the cam stays up long enough, you can do the factory default with the cams webgui. No need to take it apart.

Yesterday I received an email from Empire Tech Andy suggesting that i update the firmware with the one he posted on this forum. After the update, and a factory reset, the camera is now working correctly. I really appreciate the assistance from everyone here to get this thing fixed! I would also like to thank Andy for the quick response to my email!
