I recently purchased the Dahua IPC-HDW2231R-ZS, but the color of my grass is way too brown. The other colors seem accurate. I am unable to find the "color" setting to make the correction. Can you help me find it?

mycoma,

When going into the camera from the configuration tool, going into Device CFG, selecting the specific ip address, and going into "camera", I don't see those options. I only see brightness, contrast, saturation, sharpness, and gamma. None of these change the "green" color of the grass.

You're probably looking for a "Hue" adjustment.

Sounds like you're going through SmartPSS? Try going directly to the camera IP and the camera web interface...

No luck. When I go directly into the ip address instead of through Smart PSS, it's in a different language.

There's a thread where Andy says they shipped with the wrong firmware language...he posted the English

I've got 4 different dahua camera models, and they all show the colors differently. You can fiddle with brightness, contrast, and saturation but the real adjustment is with manual white balance. I spent some time trying to make all of the cameras match and gave up. I'm instead celebrating the diversity.

I have about 4 different dahua camera models as well and they do seem to have slightly different white balance/color output as well. Although, I wouldn't say it's enough to be much of an issue so I haven't tried tweaking the white balance and related settings too much as well. Having many cameras so not exactly being a simple easy thing to always do, the "celebrating diversity" comment is a good way to describe it as tigerwillow1 said!

I have many shady and sunny areas so I end up enabling WDR on a few of my cams to help reduce the very bright washed out areas and dark shady spots which does work, but usually requires adjusting WDR, brightness, etc. levels to get a better quality picture then just the auto/default values.

trook, if loaded with the wrong firmware as fenderman mentioned, were you able to update it? I've purchased many of my cams from multiple Aliexpress venders and they say that updating the firmware is not possible so I haven't actually tried nor had a reason to yet either. It looks like the ones ordered via Empire Tech on Amazon are suppose to all be in English w/ upgradable firmware though. Most of my newer ones are multilanguage with English and a few older ones were only in Chinese, but I'm able to get Chrome to convert at lest enough text/symbols to English so I'm able to configure them as needed without a problem. I also isolate them from direct internet access as has been suggested as a best practice with these cams.

I'm interested in possibly getting one of the Dahua IPC-HDW2231R-ZS models as well (hopefully so I can better view moving/farther away vehicle license plates). I definitely prefer the turrets vs the bullet style models as they are usually more discrete looking. Did you order yours from Empire Tech and if so, how long did it take?

I've compared the following listings:

Yes, I was able to install the new firmware. I found a thread where Andy posted a 22MB update that was supposed to be installed on the camera before I purchased it. It makes logging directly into the camera IP identical to using the Smart PSS configuration software that is included with the camera.

I do like the 2231, but I was hoping to find a "color" setting and I still can't find it in the update. Don't get me wrong; the color is not bad. I just want to fine tune it some. I suppose I will just have to play with the settings that are included.

I will not hesitate to buy from Andy again. The package arrived at my door in about 4-5 days.

I ordered many of mine via Aliexpress years ago (starting in the 2012-13 time frame) before I was aware of the ones available from Andy/Empire Tech, but would definitely consider him with any future purchases. knock on wood, I only had one cam with a built win mic that didn't work well (in a batch of 4, 1 mic didn't work like the others). I contacted the seller about it and he only offered to give me a $5 discount on another model that he said had better quality mics. I ended up just keeping it and using it where I don't care about having audio w/ the video feed.

Here's a list of the models ordered via Aliexpress that I've ordered in batches over the years. Are you aware of any that can be updated without the risk of bricking them? Some of them have minor quirks (like mentioned above if not just a dud mic or faulty connection under a black seal over the wire) and it would be nice if they could be updated or at least loaded with the latest available English/international f/w versions to make them more uniform. However, if not they still technically work so it's not a big deal just using them as is.

Good to know about Andy, thanks. Playing with and tweaking the settings definitely can't hurt.

I wonder if the latest models with the dark glass face have less noticeable red glowing IR lights in the dark. If anyone knows, please chime in. It's nice to not learn some things via trial and error!

ipc-hdw5231r-ze.JPG In this image you can see the lens in the middle of the clear glass area, a light sensor next to it, and a mic hole below the glass. Many of the lenses on Dahau cams are surrounded by a piece of dark foam making it look bigger than it is and the IR lights have a reflective background. The dark foam might help absorb glare just as some football players and such paint dark strips under their eyes.

I dont see how that is relevant...the IR passes through and is always visible otherwise it would not illuminate the scene. There is one IR led above the lens and one below in the black portion...it IS visible at night as is every 850nm ir.

Yes, the specs do say 2 IR LEDs but there is not enough contrast between them and the black areas to clearly make them out. I figured they would be just as visible at night (red glow) as the reflective background IR bulbs on the other models.
