Got my first Dahua cameras recently: IPC-HDW5231R-ZE

Unlike my older Hikvisions, which I could easily configure with their SADP program...

The Dahua camera I've tested does not show up on the Dahua Config Tool.
I tried the s/w version shipped with the camera (General_ConfigTool_ChnEng_V4.08.0.R.20170727.exe).
Then I tried version 4.10.0 available if you install the Dahua Toolbox (which I just downloaded).

Is the Dahua camera going to force me through some network hoops because my home network is not a 192.168.1.x but rather a 192.168.0.x configuration?

EDIT: By the way, both my PC and the camera plug into the same POE switch, which connects also with the router/cable modem.

It isn't that hard to change your ip address on your PC.
Then just change the cam IP and change pc back and you are done.

So I HAVE to use 192.168.1.x subnet then, is that it?

nope...first the config tool should work across subnets..but if it does not you can temporarily change your PC ONLY while plugged into the same switch as the camera...there are a bunch of threads explaining how to do this.

OK thanks, but still CANNOT get config tool to see the camera even after changing one NIC to 192.168.1.2 and connecting that NIC to POE switch with Dahua (ditto with direct connect using also a POE injector).
But at least I can login to it at the default IP of 192.168.1.108 after the temporary PC IP change.
That lets me change the IP to the desired 192.168.2.xxx value.

But what about the varifocal aspect of this camera: can I set that without the config tool and just the web login?
There is a screen that lets you adjust zoom and focus: is this changing the actual focal length just like the config tool presumably can?

I also wonder if two NICs is confusing the config tool.
But mainly now the question is the varifocal issue above...web i/f adjust this or only config tool?

I dont understand, you have access to the web interface...you can SEE and HEAR that its adjusting the VF.

Your overthinking it, use the Webgui from now on and forget the configtool.
User error is the reason configtool is not seeing the cam for you.
Set the subnet you want to search in the "Search Settings" at the top of the window.

The camera is not by the PC so can't hear it, and wasn't sure if I was just digitally zooming with the web i/f.
But yes, it was user error: once I both updated the password (to match value set in web i/f) and also set IP address range for the correct subnet, configtool now sees the camera!
Thanks guys.
