Hi, I just installed this camera and realize that no Audio is supported..
I am very new in IP Cam and buy Camera just to monitor my kids at home when I'm away. Didn't hear their voice is seem strange for me, while my old cheap camera can do this.

Any advise on how to add voice for this camera? Can we add come external microphone instead? How to install it?

Thanks.

no...you need to purchase a camera that either has a built in mic or has an audio in...this camera has neither...it is important to read specs...often folks specifically do not want a mic or audio recording option...

I finally updated my DS-2CD2335FWD-I camera firmware to the Sept 2017 V5.5.0- there's now a new "Auto" function for WDR. It looks good during daytime- I previously was running the contrast close to 0 to improve vision in the shadows (as WDR "ON" ruined the night vision.) I'll have to wait for darkness to see how it goes.

The latest is: V5.5.3 171018 2017-10-18
V5.5.0 is 2017-07-25
Any idea on anything updated on that one? Hopefully the microphone audio issues I've got with my "S" model 3MP.

I got the "latest" from the www.hikvision.com website (unless I missed that one?) I asked the AliExpress person I bought mine off which Hikvision site I should get updates from and the response was "there's only one site" - not very helpful! I assumed that meant the .com website.

Thinking of changing out a few of my DS-2CD2142-FWD-IS domes as I'm looking to move to more of a turret style for my outdoor cams and would like cameras with significantly better low light performance. Would like to keep to the Hikvision range as I made the original mistake of going with a Hik NVR a few years ago and don't want to switch to Dahua or have to build an HTPC for BlueIris right now, unless the Dahua's are that much more of an upgrade in performance vs the Hiks.

A few quick questions:

1. Are these still the latest/greatest Hikvision low light turrets? I also see a 2325 version, is there a difference?

2. Anyone move from the 2142 to this and see a big diff in low light (very little ambient lighting) viewing?

3. Does Hik have any comparable varifocal lens turrets to the Dahua?

4. Is there a PTZ version in case I wanted one of those?

Thx!

2325 is HD resolution (2 MP). 2335 is 2k resolution (3 MP).

Here's a current pic. There are a couple lights on about ~200 feet from the cameras as you can see which is helping (not sure why the neighbours have left lights on the last several days!).

Night time, you would leave the 2335 on day-time mode, at 1/12 exposure for very low noise results.
Day time, the 2142 would still be better.

How much better is the 2335 for nighttime viewing in IR mode vs day mode?

When there are no lights in the background that area is pitch dark.. Not sure leaving the cam in day mode would work.

2335 IR would make the image more clearly and with the clarity for a much longer viewing distance. The 2142 is pointless running in day mode at night, (its that bad).

When the street lights are on the I can use day time on the cameras, but my council turns the lights off overnight, so I have to use IR. When there is no light at all, there's no picture.

Hmmmm...curious how much better it really is than the 2142 I posted above for instance, whether it's worth the upgrade. Could always buy one I guess and try it out.

From a subjective point ot view, having used both, the DS-2CD2335FWD is much superior in it's low-light performance.
I use this model in day mode at night.
The DS-2CD2042 is actually inferior to the DS-2CD2032-I for low light performance.

Here are a couple of pics, taken from ivms on my phone, of the two camera now.

First is the 2335 and the second is from the older one. I know they are different views, but hopefully you'll get an idea.

Just looks like there is quite a bit of ambient light in both from the street. Think I'll just order a 4mm and try it out for fun. So this is the most current Hik? Can't recall if they have an annual update cycle on their products or not.

1/12 will give you great still pictures, but anything moving will be a blur.

They have got a new 4MP "powered by darkfighter" camera. I posted a thread on it a few weeks back. New Hik 4MP "Powered by Darkfighter" DS-2CD2H45FWD-IZS DS-2CD2345FWD-I

You also mentioned varifocals, the 3MP varifocal version is here 3 MP WDR Vari-focal DS-2CD2H35FWD-IZS . The lens quality (sharpness across the whole frame) is a lot better, but you pay for it. You can also add on a microphone and have audio.

Hmm...can't seem to find the first two you posted on aliexpress. Yea, those varifocals are quite expensive so will stick with fixed lenses..

The first two are recent releases, you could try contacting one of the AliExpress Hik sellers and ask for a price.
